Chrome - how is it compared to the Fox of Fire?

What really annoys me is that Google is very slow to release updates to fix bugs. I love the speed of V8 but the display issues with certain drop down menus in PHP render it useless to me. Why hasn't Google had an update facility that pushes updates every week or so?

Has it been updated at all?

Not that I'm aware, although after being an early adopter and being disappointed at the lack of updating I've not checked recently.

This goes round in circles...

Basically yeah IE displays the web for joe public, Opera/Fx/Chrome ARE better.

Better is a wholely subjective term. Personally I rate IE7 over Firefox (2 or 3), Chrome about between the two and opera at the top. I have all the browers installed on my system, but nearly always only have opera and IE actually being used. The others are only there for compatibility or interest purposes.

Others will, undoubtably, disagree with my ordering, and that's fine, because it's a choice, a subjective thing, in the vast majority of cases. We can argue about which one offers more standards compliance and so on, but those things, on their own, don't make a better browser.

Tried it, liked it - but is it better than firefox? i'd say no - a different take, but not better. Opera is still my preferred choice.

I like Firefox, and I'm used to it. Also love it's customizability and speed.

For those saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it" it's a big improvement, so whether you want to pass up on a free <expensive car> just because your <banger> can take you places, that's fine.

Why is so weight placed with the concept of browser speed? There are so many more important factors in terms of how fast a web page loads than how good the browser is. The browser might account for fractions of a second's worth of difference, i.e. unnoticeable.

Until I see a decent study proving browser speed differences, I'll carry on putting it down as fanboy mumbo-jumbo.

For me, IE still suffers with crashes for seemingly innocuous things. You will be loading a page when suddenly, 'oh, it's crashed'.

Having said this, FF need to fix the whole flash/java on a page thing which can sometimes grind it to a halt. Scrolling with some of these embedded is also a royal pain as the scrolling becomes really jerky.

For the reasons above re: security and anonymous data, I cannot condone Chrome personally.

Whilst i agree somewhat, and i'd rather have broadband and a perceived "slow" browser than dial-up and a "fast" browser. When you're using a browser day to day on a fast internet connection you do noticed the (very small i understand) difference in page loads, but good page design also plays a big role too.

An analogy; take for instance mobile phones, some are slightly slow to open their phonebook etc.. that's not really a problem in the grand scheme of things, whats an extra .5 seconds. But I'm sure you'd choose it to be quicker if it didn't cost you anything?

The same can be said for browsers and it's why i originally ended up using Opera day to day (it seems its been trumped after all these years though :p) i find myself using chrome for certain things (mostly google things) because it IS noticeably quicker and Opera for the rest because it has much better usability than chrome.
