2 friends & myself went backbox hunting today for my Saxo (a standard one) as it is rather cullinder like atm.

A excellent days driving, some real roads and immense fun but not in the Saxo. Nooo, she was sitting in the garage at home.

In my mums Mini One.

I was rather shocked at how reasonably chuckable it was, it has 16" alloys with runflat tyres so the ride is harsh but it took the twisties really well.

Not as well as a Saxo would, but for a standard Mini without the cooper suspension it made me think "whats the cooper like then?"

So what are the coopers like to throw around and how well does your car take the twisties?

My mate has a Clio 1.4 Extreme 55 plate amd thats pretty chuckable to a degree.

I wish my mum had the cooper suspension package as an extra now :(

I'm a bit disappointed that Citreon are not doing free insurance on the C2 VTS.

Any idea when morethan will give me a quote on a VTS? Can't even get a quote on a 1.7 Puma :(

My mates Mk1 Golf GTi loves the twisties although he understeers a lot.

Most car's would struggle to keep up with a well driven Mini one on bumpy country lanes. They soak up the bumps and provide loads of grip.

Used to hoon my mum's one about a bit when I was at home.

I felt the rear going a tad lighter than I would have liked at times.

For a small car that weighs near enough 1.1 tons it's pretty chuckable ;)

What, other than the vast majority of the design work? :)

I hope you are not trying to compare the old Mini to the new one. :p

Look at the size of the new one, you could fit the old mini inside it twice over :D

Did rover have anything to do with the new mini at all. I know BMW took a lot of the ideas from the old one, but making a 1.1 ton car handle like the old 500gram one.......surely thats the Germans doing what they do best?

Note to self "never let teenage son borrow car so he can hoon around in it with his friends"

I have my own car that I "hoon" around in.

I'm quite aware of the mini's capabillities which are quite minimal compared to the Saxo.

Well they don't post on this forum expressing how "chuckable" their Mums mini (FNARR) is !

HEADRAT

And what the hell has that got to do with anything?

The fact that I have owned a car that is quite easily, twice as chuckable as this car for 1 year and not gone on about how chuckable it is. All I was asking for was peoples oppinions on how chuckable they find the new mini's.

As you do not seem to own one, why bother replying?

Because boys who think they can drive tend to "chuck" their (or Mums) cars into things :) you've been driving for a whole 1 year, wow I take it all back you obviously the next STIG!

I will comment in thread I feel like thanks!

HEADRAT

And please show me where I have bragged about breaking speed limits and putting my mums car into slides to see how chuckable it was, to find when I would end upside down in a field?

And for the measure, I've nearly been driving 2 years ;)

There ya go! having driven a number of mini's I know you'd have to be driving it pretty hard to make it display these characteristics

Well I have driven my friends Cooper S many times but I own a Z4.

Oooh a whole 2 years ;)

And what I have not mentioned was the surface and condition of tyres.

So it was icy with bald tyres ;)

No, dried dirt on the road.

Only doing about 35 mph around reasonable corners.

My mate in his MK1 Golf GTi was well off into the distance at speeds of 50mph+ a corner...

I was only checking for body roll, you can do that on an island at 20mph.

I think we need to give digitalwolf a bit of a break here.

Finding out the chuckability of a MINI really is low on the teenage driver offence list, in my opinion. Many more dangerous things happen daily.

Like racing around tesco car park

Are you watching me?

Nah :p

I only do burnouts in the services. Or ASDA.

Haha, this lad in a Probe 24v constantly races around our local Tesco car park.

He nearly knocked down a little boy once.....funny seeing his face when the little boys bruiser dad went into the store after him :D
