Chuffing do-gooders and busybodies

Me too, whilst he callously goes around destroying the habitat of poor rabbits and small birds.

Really spoffle?

FoxEye, I wouldn't bother giving a rats arsewhisker what those busybodies think. After all, what are they going to do? "Some bloke called FoxEye on the forums cut some brambles down, arrest him!" :D

Lol you have not seen the power of OCUK detectives :D. May I suggest checking out a Cerberus thread :).

Well you clearly don't understand a joke. Derp.

Why not just contact the land owners and ask them to clear it assuming it's a right of way.

If it's not a right of way then there's no need to cut them down.

Either way it's not your property to tamper with. And yes you could be harming wildlife.

Also, this thread is so hypocritical is borderline retarded.

In addition to the above can you clarify if the land yours? Have you researched the types of wildlife found in the undergrowth to see if any of them are protected species?

It might just seem like an unattractive tangle of weeds but those brambles are providing homes, security and food for millions of animals and insects which in turn provides food and resources for bigger animals. Undergrowth and hedges like this are essential to our biodiversity and even our survival as a species

The happiness hypothesis a book I'm reading at the moment written by a top psychologist.

One of points he hits home hard on and goes into great depth is we're all massive hypocrites.

Now when I see do gooders I can't help see them in a different light now going by the information I know.

TLDR Human psychology is fun to know.

Annoy me greatly.

You know the situation. You ask a harmless question like:

"What is the best X for Y?"

And someone replies with "What do you need to do Y for? I hope you're not doing something I personally disapprove of. Now I'm going to outline all the reasons I think think you shouldn't be doing Y, and relate some experience of the last time I interfered in someone else's business."

Instead of just answering the damn question.

Just had a thread derailed on another forum by a couple guys who insist it's wrong and immoral for me to cut a path through brambles on an old disused tramway. Because bunny rabbits might live there. And little baby birds. And then talk about reporting me to the Police.

Grr, busybodies. Grinds my gears. And in this case, made me start a ****y thread :p

TL;DR - live and let live if it isn't hurting anyone. Baby rabbits don't count, there's tons of the little buggers.

P.S. sorry for starting another ****y thread (I'm not sorry).

They're not wrong. Did Environmental Science and those bushes are "biological corridors". Essential for birds, mammals, and insects. :p

The more you know. :D

I find the opening post ironic coming from the poster who derailed the Rent in the UK thread by claiming landlords should be banned from chraging high rent as its immoral.

FoxEye shouldn't you be spending your free time on getting that 50k job instead of clearing someone elses property for free :p

Nope, done no research and don't intend to. I'll just keep chopping down the brambles, thanks.

I'm sure no significant damage will be done. You can get hung up on the potential impact on the little fluffy bunnies, but in reality they are much more resilient than you give them credit for. You could get hung on the legality too, but who really cares about a patch of brambles on abandoned ground? Not me!

My cutting a small path through a dense patch of brambles will have no affect on anything. The bunnies will probably be like "Ooh, this looks different," before munching on the nearest patch of grass, like they always do. I doubt any of them will shoot themselves over it or anything.

Hmm. Are you suggesting that, via the butterfly principle, my cutting down a small patch of brambles here could cause massive damage to a Soviet-era train track in Russia? (We'll ignore that the signs are in English).

Because otherwise I have no idea what that picture is about.

Because bunnies are the only animals that'll be affected?

Nesting birds, insects and or lavea and other small mammals.

Can you please post why you want the brambles removing? please?

Is it to shorted a walk route in to work/town etc?

Sorry, meant to answer that and forgot.

Exploring. Looking for stuff ;) Mineshafts, adits. Holes in the ground. Clearing the brambles helps make it easier not to fall in one (they aren't all made safe, even today). I did say it was on old, abandoned waste ground. Well this land is often unusable for anything else. Nothing will grow on it, no houses can be built on it, it's often hemmed in by streams or roads or fields.

It is left overgrown although in some cases the council keep some of these sites maintained to some degree. Normally only if there's an engine house tho. Otherwise, where there are no old buildings to conserve, these areas are just abandoned and forgotten.

Technically they must belong to someone, and that someone is not me, for sure. But who is really going to be interested enough in such places to get upset about the loss of a few brambles?

Answer: there are some people who can get upset about anything ;)
