I went to my local Cineworld on Wednesday and saw they were selling Mando & Grogu merch. £9.99 for a plastic cup with a bust on top. Ridiculous.
The Grogu popcorn bucket though blew my mind. £35! But they do throw in a regular popcorn. Such generosity.
I watched the family in front of us buy two of them. :eek: £70 on utter tat.
Then there was an ad for "Cineworld Collectables" just before the film (not M&G).
I know cinemas are struggling but wow.
 
It's ridiculous for sure, but if that's what it takes for me to watch my annual film in a proper cinema and others wanna pay for it then crack on.
 
And I would give it all for a dune Shai-Hulud popcorn bucket.

You'd have had a heart attack at the last Avatar offerings then.
My daughters had to have the full on huge plastic banshee figurine buckets, highly impractical shape and popcorn was still extra zero change out of 120 quid not including actual tickets.
 
It's probably not the cinema's doing.

Items like that are generally supplied by the distributor of whichever film the collectable is for and they're the ones to set prices.

I was gonna get the Ghost-trap one from Ghostbusters Afterlife but zero justification for the cost

Food and drink is really the only income for a cinema. For the most part 95-100%, dependant on release (most MCU titles for example were 100%) of the ticket goes to the distributor. Some smaller, indie/foreign releases might drop to 85% but not common.

And the adverts, 20 minutes of adverts starting at the actual published movie starting time. That should come under soliciting/cold calling laws (automated messages are illegal) .
 
Hardly anything that’s labelled as special, collectors, limited etc keeps their value. People buy them and hoard them… it’s the everyday stuff that don’t sell well, people use or play with that breaks which goes up in value. I wanted the two floating robots from the black hole. They cost more than any Star Wars toy now…

It’s easy as adults to laugh and refuse the collectors edition but when you have a child that really wants it, and if you can afford it… why not? The price of happiness for a few hours.
 
I don't know how families can afford to go out and do things together, no wonder so many children end up spending hours staring at their phones

Catch 22.. high prices keep people away but less people are going out anyway so low attendance makes it harder for places to keep prices down
 
Our Cineworld had a regular drink and regular popcorn, 2 for £11.99. Not too bad, I thought. That'll do for the missus and I.
Oh, you sweet summer child. It's not two combos for £11.99. Each combo is that price, so fork over £23.98, please.
Won't be making that mistake again. Although, truth be told, I rarely go to the cinema anymore anyway.
