Judging by google maps it looks possible. I wouldnt walk on the A429 though unless theres a footpath. Theres what looks like a country lane running parellel to the east of it that might be better.
I wouldn't recommend it. There are regular buses which are tied into the train timetable. If you do have to wait there's a nice pub next to the station (opposite side from the bus stop).
I think you can also get a National Express coach from Cirencester to Swindon station.
As most of you have pointed out, yes it would be possible. But to be honest its on the edge of possible. I drove it yesterday in the bad weather and I really wouldn't have wanted to walk it. Today in the nicer weather, and daylight I might have attempted it.
For future reference I would only walk if if you really really had too. And really try and avoid the dark hours.
There are probably some unlit footpaths across fields, but again I'd avoid the dark!
