Just got one of these but is running older 12.0 IOS, are their any hardware requirements to upgrade the IOS to 12.1?, oh and where would a man get a 12.1 ios?

Looking at 12.1.22-EA8 (the latest 12.1), all the feature sets need 16MB main & 8MB flash.

IOS images are available for download on cisco.com, once you've logged in with an account with the relevant privileges.

many thanks for the reply, hmmmmm are all the older 2950's upgradeable in terms of memory?

I do have a login for Cisco but not the relevant privileges to get the IOS-es :(

Errr, no, not NVRAM. You'll probably have a few K of NVRAM, not megs.

Good luck getting images if you don't have the relevant privs with Cisco.

incidentally the 2950 I have reports that it doesnt have NVRAM and uses flash simulated NVRAM thast why I assumed the one I have is older..........

as for IOS-es I will ask around, cheers for the quick reply.

I`m just starting reading/practicing for CCNP BCMSN

All 2950s use flash simulated NVRAM to my knowledge. You need to have paid for support for the particular platform you are downloading images for to access them (legally).

The switch IOS images are available and downloadable from a non prived CCO account. You will however need a license to use them legally.

You need a CCO account with priviledges to download IOS, you can't just register and download IOS... I've got 3 accounts only 1 of them has that priviledge but it was setup by my sales department I dunno what you do to get that.

Not for the switches amusingly enough, for router images yes.

Just downloaded the image as discussed above from my non privved account. Also picked up a newer image for a 2924!

If you attempt to download router images it'll take you to the IOS planner which requires prived access.

I'm sick and tired of trying to sign up with cisco CCO. Tells me I can't signup because I have a geo valadation error. Emailed tech support at Cisco they just ignored emails or didn't get them or something. I get my IOS of a CCIE.

So out of interest, what is the situation with them chasing up downloads made by accounts not owning the correct service contract?

cheers guys, I managed to get a later IOS from a colleague :)

c2950-i6q4l2-mz.121-22.EA6.bin

its running this atm

c2950-c3h25-mz.120-5.3.WC.1.bin

now I need to remember how to upgrade it, approx 1 year since I used any Cisco skills and my middle aged memory is not helping.... :o
