Hello,

I have just aquired a Cisco Catalyst 2900 XL and was wondering if its ok for using on a simple home network?.... I realise its quite old.

Can I telnet into it or use serial cable to config it? I'd like to be able to play around with the SNMP functionality of it.

Thanks

Dave

It'll be fine assuming that 10/100 is all you need.

Either telnet or a console cable can be used to configure it. Unless you know the IP address of the switch you'll need a console cable to look at the current config.

And a pretty old computer/new computer with an IO card that supports a serial connection for the DB9 adapter!

Do the Catalyst Switches have the same instructions as the Routers?
