Cisco CCENT/CCNA

Hello Gents,

thanks for providing a great thread for people looking to enter this field.it's really good to be able to see so many people cracking on with it.

I'm looking to install GNS3 today and I need a Cisco IOS image to continue with that,do I really have to buy an old Cisco router off ebay to get my hands on an IOS image or is there another way I can do that?

Thanks

Technically if you know what the IOS filename is called you could google that to get links.

Connecting to a router with a Console cable

What program do you use when using a windows O/s later that Xp?

Do later routers still use a console cable to connect or is a usb?

Many thanks

Andy

PuTTY is excellent.

Later hardware has a console port and a mini USB port, which is pretty much a USB serial adapter except built into the unit.

I use a mix of putty (there's a version with tabs) and secureCRT.

Some new small routers for example can use a usb, I can't say I've ever used it...as a whole everything still uses the usual console cables, even the high end equipment such as ASR9Ks.
