Cisco vs Netgear (for home network switch)

First of all that top one's a Linksys, there's very little/nothing Cisco about any of their small business stuff.

It's very likely to make no difference at all, they will both perform like small office type equipment. Pick whatever you prefer the look of. Do you need 16 ports?

I also think you should be looking towards a gigabit switch.

If you have purchased a motherboard or new computer with in the last couple of years it will have a gigabit ethernet card inside, and if you haven't then you will! It makes a hell of a difference having a gigabit network.

Again I also ask why do you need 16 port for the home?

Just get yourself a cheap 8 port gigabit switch, or if you really need 16 ports, get two and run a short Cat 5e or Cat6 cable between them. It should be more than enough bandwidth for your needs.

Simple switches are all equally good, don't bother with anything expensive unless you actually need managed features (very unlikely that you do)

I've got a couple of Asus gigabit switches, cheap+cheerful, running 24/7 and i've not had a problem in the two years i've had them.
Never had a problem with any switch i've owned in the last 10 years. I did however have to power cycle some ancient netgear hubs and switches at work on occasion.
