Hi, I have just read a thread about Cisco advice but without hijacking it I could do with some too. :)

I am very interested in networking, know the basics well and I am pretty certain my career will be based around this hopefully.

My local college does :-

Cisco - CCNA Semester 1 Level 3
CCNA Semester 2 Level 3
CCNA Semester 3 Level 3
CCNA Semester 4 Level 3
OCR CISCO L2 HP IT Essentials 1
OCR CISCO L3 HP IT Essentials 2

Network +

A+

Now, I have built many computers which still work haha. I also maintain a lot of my relatives computers and repair them when they screw up.

Have a big interest in the networking/internet side of IT for many years and have set up many home based networks for friends/ relatives & myself.

What do you think I should take?

Are all the Cisco's neccessary?

Is A+ as highly acknowledged as Cisco?

Thanks.

Probably best to do the 4 Cisco semesters then make sure you get the CCNA exam done at the end of it. The course alone doesn't get you a qualification, you have to pass a seperate test at the end.

CCNA is Cisco's entry level qualification and is quite well regarded in the industry so well worth doing.

the problem with CCNA is that they are so easy to get (although recent changes made the test harder) so they have started to loose all value. Getting a CCNA isnt difficult, so exployers are looking for real world experience, something a little bit of paper with the words 'CCNA' and 'Your Name' writen on it wouldnt give you. Even with cisco qualifications, the chances are very high that yourll have to start where most ppl start in IT/Networking, at a helpdesk, and to become part of a helpdesk you dont realy need any certifications, but they do help.

Gwt this moved to the off-topic section as that's where this sort of thing is normally posted and you'll get wayyyy more replies that way.

I too am looking to get cisco certified... I would have started a course this year but Central Sussex College aren't running it due to a lack of applicants. :(
