my specs are, I mean WERE as follows:

CIT case and 500W power supply
Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
AMD FX-8350
16GB of 1600mhz RAM
500GB HDD
windows 7 pro 64x
ATI Radeon HD 6450 512mb
Etc etc

so I had done a small overclock to 4.4Ghz and 2500mhz HT link.
I had launched Prime95 64x to see if I was running stable.
about 5 min in if even, i heard a noise coming from the case, thought at first it was something hitting off the fan, so I stuck my head over to see what it was and BANG, the power supplky exploded, sparks and bits came firing out the back, I looked into it and there was capacitors and a fuse just in peices in there.

ok I'v heard of people advising on changing power supply when getting a case to something reputable, but I never knew it was for this reason, thought maybe it might just not be able to deliver enough power or something. I dont have a big power hungly graphics card, that is why I thought I'd get away with it.

well this is just a warning to people to BUY a DECENT power supply with your setup!!

out of interest, has this happened to many others out there?

ps. I'm lucky no other parts were damaged, and am using a spare PSU untill I get a new replacement.

I am really lucky, just read a few reviews about cit psu and some were not so lucky!

I really dont understand how they are still allowed to sell these with known problems like this, surely this is a health & safety issue no?

lesson learned is right, I will be getting a decent one after some review reading..

well I'd be glad to settle with this happen me if it helps deter it from happening again and destroying other people's components.

to anyone who may use some bit of performance from their machine, and has one of these psu, Invest in a decent psu, you have been forewarned :D

Gotta love the way he combined a high end AMD rig with an underrated entry level PSU, blew it up, then immediately took to the internet bashing the manufacturer and advising people to stay clear of their entire product line :P

ya because they do say on the front of the power supply "Not compatible with Piledriver CPU's"

seriously if your going to criticize me at least say something worthwhile.
and where did I "Bash" the Brand? I said is it not a health and safety hazzard that they are known for this type of failure. and is there something wrong with advising people so they wont make the same mistake I did? of course there is, were not all as godly gifted as you are, seriously do ya honestly think you are special or something? maybe you are;)

got forbid anybody makes a mistake here:rolleyes:

@martin,ya you going blind:D ah ya its a 8350, I'm happy with it tho and it works well for what I use it for so dont really care what kind of a launch it was, it was a pretty reasonable price on it too. and yup this is my first build

Ill apologise if I came off arrogant or offensive, however it annoys me when people diss products/brands for erroneous reasons, if you had asked on here beforehand you would have been told that PSU was insufficient for the system and would fail under load. I have personally built/upgraded many many systems using CiT PSU's as well as many other types and in my experience they are as just as reliable as the likes of Antec or FSP, they are a cheap entry level brand and in no way shape or form near the level of Seasonic/Enermax/Delta or their re-sellers, but they are also significantly better than bargain basement budget PSU's.

It is actually on the side of the PSU, on the pages of most places selling it, and probably on the box too. However instead of English its written in math, again all you had to do was ask.

ok my apology for my childish reply to you, I did not mean to act like a *****, I was just trying to get my point across that I was not bashing the brand, merely pointing out flaws and miss advertising it as a 500W PSU, I did not know prior to buying it that it would not be up for the job and was disappointed when it failed, although knowing now only paying £30 for a case alone is cheap let alone a PSU, well I'v learn't my lesson now and put my hand up for foolish hardware choice. I'm sure these PSU's are fine for very low powered setups, just wish I had the knowledge beforehand and didn't find a forum until after I made the setup.
