Release date is out, March 10th. £22.99 regular, £29.99 for deluxe (5 extra landmarks, soundtrack etc etc).
Love that pic, wish i could create maps which were as interesting as that, instead of them always being like Manhattan style grids Although, Skylines would be the first game with curved roads AND a decent size map, so you're not forced to cram everything into a small space to achieve/unlock things.
This pic is from the live stream the other day, with a little editing to highlight the players map boarder. You unlock access buy/extend your land at various goals, 8,000ppl being the first iirc. You can see where Spring Park is in the top right, that square is 1 plot, and you can have 9 of them (so theres 6 on screen in there, probably 3 more on the border mostly off-screen).
They've also confirmed that it'll be easy for someone to modify the game and disable the 9-plots limit imposed in the game, and use the full 2kmx2km x 25 plots.
They've done it so it gives them a realistic system requirement, and the rest is user modification, so it'll probably struggle if you plan of filling a full map, but it does mean you'd be able to build sizeable cities dotted around the map, a bit like the SC region, but being able to alter every aspect - create the map world, rivers, resources etc. Place and edit highways, train lines etc.
Its got its flaws, incl tiny farms (4x4 plots max for all RCI stuff), no day & night cycle or daily routines (so no rush-hour, school runs etc). Lots of silly little things really, but more positives than negatives. Modding seems to be a high priority too. People who've pre-ordered on steam have access to the workshop area (CO/Paradox didnt realise they would) and theres already examples of modded & shared content:
etc
Theres even an in-game editor, so you can create a park say 8x8 in size, grass floor, and then plop in trees, ponds, slides... alsorts. You can even edit the existing assets, add stuff into them. I dont expect much from the tools included, but its nice. The community stuff should be interesting though.
