Love that pic, wish i could create maps which were as interesting as that, instead of them always being like Manhattan style grids :( Although, Skylines would be the first game with curved roads AND a decent size map, so you're not forced to cram everything into a small space to achieve/unlock things.

This pic is from the live stream the other day, with a little editing to highlight the players map boarder. You unlock access buy/extend your land at various goals, 8,000ppl being the first iirc. You can see where Spring Park is in the top right, that square is 1 plot, and you can have 9 of them (so theres 6 on screen in there, probably 3 more on the border mostly off-screen).

They've also confirmed that it'll be easy for someone to modify the game and disable the 9-plots limit imposed in the game, and use the full 2kmx2km x 25 plots.
They've done it so it gives them a realistic system requirement, and the rest is user modification, so it'll probably struggle if you plan of filling a full map, but it does mean you'd be able to build sizeable cities dotted around the map, a bit like the SC region, but being able to alter every aspect - create the map world, rivers, resources etc. Place and edit highways, train lines etc.

Its got its flaws, incl tiny farms (4x4 plots max for all RCI stuff), no day & night cycle or daily routines (so no rush-hour, school runs etc). Lots of silly little things really, but more positives than negatives. Modding seems to be a high priority too. People who've pre-ordered on steam have access to the workshop area (CO/Paradox didnt realise they would) and theres already examples of modded & shared content:

Theres even an in-game editor, so you can create a park say 8x8 in size, grass floor, and then plop in trees, ponds, slides... alsorts. You can even edit the existing assets, add stuff into them. I dont expect much from the tools included, but its nice. The community stuff should be interesting though.

TotallyMoo, the Paradox Community Manager has just confirmed that nuuvem is an authorised retailer for the game. Its ~ £12 & £15 for the standard & deluxe editions. [edit £15.53 for deluxe, says paypal email]

I took a punt before the weekend, but kinda had uncertainty, but it seems like a safe bet afterall.

Just have to chip in and say that a) this is an awesome deal and b) they are an official retailer, so no shady grey market keys.

Carry on!

Just digging through some of his posts on Reddit today:

"Okay so I don't think we'll work with physical versions on amazon.in - unfortunately.

How does a site like this work for you?
http://www.nuuvem.com.br/produto/2651-cities-skylines-deluxe-edition

Still a lot of restriction? These keys are not region bound to my knowledge. There will be physical copies available from Amazon.uk though. Maybe you can sway a nice community member to get you a copy and send it via personal mail?

I'm still waiting for confirmation about India specific retailers but it doesn't look bright, I'm afraid."

He's gone out of his way to highlight A) Use Nuuvem (to a Indian customer) and B) he's not aware of it being region locked. The underlined bit is important, but i suspect if it turns out its not, and he's been suggesting people use this site which locks us still, we should have a decent claim to receive a localised key from them... that said, Nuuvem apparently IP checks you when adding an item it knows it region locked, and prevents you buying it, everything else is *supposed* to be region free.

At that price for the deluxe I am in.. I don't have a paypal account and I refuse to use one, is it possible to use my VISA card on the site, and is it safe enough ?

Cheers

Yeah, ive used them 3 times, infact i have as many accounts with them as i have games, as you cant buy multiples, it see's a game as bought or not bought, and so you cant buy it again. I've bought 2 copies of Saints Row 4 around release, 3x The Crew about 2wk after, and now Cities: Skylines. I've always used PayPal though, and bought copies for others cos of the faffing with translations and not having the funds at that time.

My only concern with them would be purely the regional aspects. If its a restricted region, its useless, and their refund policy is if you click to 'reveal' the key, you own that code.
That said, they do highlight games which are region locked (ive taken screen dumps of Skylines, and FM2015 which is regional, as backup to any potential complaint) but seeing the comment from Paradox saying *as far as he knows* theres no region lock, it shouldnt be an issue. I'll be keeping an eye on reddit anyway, so if news comes back saying its regional, then we can cancel easy enough.

Oh, also should be worth pointing out that the embargo for gameplay footage and interviews which were taken from PDXCON last week, ends at 15:00 CET (2PM GMT) tomorrow so there should be a decent amount of new individual footage and thoughts.

The reviewers dont have their own copies yet, not sure exactly when they do, but that embargo is 1wk before launch (March 3rd, presumably) so within a reasonable time to gauge an opinion and pre-order for the silly extras or just wait for general opinion after release.

There was a preview about a week ago, not entirely sure why, but seemingly Yogcast got a copy and the guy who did the review (sips) uploaded it last week, having already released it a week before that embargo (they seem to be the only ones, so why bother with an embargo for 1 person?) and basically swore his way through the whole thing much to the annoyance of the community, and as they're a casual gamer, told us nothing new from it anyway. So hopefully the fact that some sim-orientated youtubers were at PDXCON we'll get some meaningful feedback & thoughts on stuff tomorrow afternoon.

Hadnt heard of him until yesterday tbh, decent video though.
The only youtuber i follow for this sort of content is Zhatt, cos he does a monthly roundup of sim news so its a good place to find out about new stuff. Hopefully he'll have a video available soon if he attended.

Third one

Just got to the end of Arumba's video and he's talking about the date the game started (1st Jan 2015) and it being 1yr on. I went back and looked assuming he'd be right cos it made sense but i just happened to think it'd be cool if it was March 10th... the date it started was (midway through) Feb 13th. Im wondering if that was the day they got to record it, and the start date is the IRL date you start on, which is a nice touch :D

This looks exciting, I have not had time to view vids yet, what do people think?

At least theres an article you might be able to read if you cant watch stuff atm :D

I've watched the first 2 so far, theres nothing really in there which was new, although i did see a ploppable shopping mall in the first very briefly (will have to go back and pause to read what it said), and judging by the achievement 'build a large hadron collider, that seems like a science 'end game' thing, something they've not discussed yet.
They've been very happy with it though, running smooth on their (small) city, but also ran fine on the 8-tile one the devs had built and used for the PDXCON stream.

One thing that Arumba mentioned, which i was just wondering myself moments before he brought it up, was longevity. With so much space means its easy to be wasteful, small space means fine tuning, being mindful of what you do as space is limited.
I always look at some peoples maps and wish i had the patience to build this way, in a free and creatively flowing map, rather than going with grids to get as much in as possible etc. So hopefully with so much space comes the ability to, rather than look to use every tile efficiently, instead use it creatively. Create small villages, build highways away from residential areas, basically be mindful of creativity and what the population would want, rather than cramming it all in.
The PDXCON map is a perfect example of what i wish i could do. Hopefully this will add a dimension to extend its lifespan, rather than the dull grid route and it having no soul.

The little bit of thesixthaxis video ive seen is 2yrs further in, and might have more footage from the 'mid-game' area, raised roads crossing rivers and stuff.

I havent seen anything to put me off so far.

Im wondering if that was the day they got to record it, and the start date is the IRL date you start on, which is a nice touch :D

Confirmed :D

This game has recently caught my attention and looks like it has real potential.

Like most, I had initially written it off as I had confusingly thought it was made by the same devs as Cities XXL - think they need to make the difference clear to the public wherever possible.
