Had a go on the demo for about 10 minutes earlier.. and quite frankly it bored me. Should I give it half an hour or so?

No, if I was you I'd judge a universally well received somewhat of a classic game on ten minutes.

Uninstall tbh.

Its up to you, not everybody will like a game, although as I love the Civ series I find your problem a bit hard to understand. The thing to remember is a civ game is a bit of a slow boiler, when an individual game can take many hours (and I have seen games that have taken over 300 hours) playing for only 10 minutes isn't really giving it a full shot.

I think you have to examine your reasons why you downloaded the demo in the first place, if it was just curiosity then it could be the game is not for you. On the other hand if you are looking for a game to play as you don't have anything else to play then you should probably give it a couple of hours.

Downloaded it because of it being so highly praised. And because I play a lot of stratergy and history games :).

Anyway , I just bought the complete pack off steam for £6.25 . Can't go wrong for that price

Civ can be boring at the start. I think it helps if you do a bit of reading in the encyclopedia thingy to get a feel for what you are working towards, looking at tech paths etc. Set yourself medium term goals and work towards them.

My most played (single player mode) game of all time easily! I play loads of other more recent games but i allways go back to Civ4 inbetween. The game can almost be as simple or as complex as you want it to be and the games are highly configurable, and gets very challenging as you up the difficulties. Of course you may just never like the game, but i would seriously recommend giving it a good game or two before giving in on it!

I wouldn't judge even an FPS on less than 1hr play, the idea of judging a turn based stategy game on 10 mins is ridiculous. You have yet to try the game.

Great game, enjoyed it a lot.

Personally though I preffered Alpha Centauri (think thats the right spelling) I thought that game was pretty much perfect!

I bought it as it was only £6.25 on steam and managed to lose 5 hours without realising it, only twigged the time when I realised that I needed the toilet and hadn't had a smoke in a while. Good way to help you quit smoking really. Think I've clocked up close to 20 hours play time since picking it up on Saturday, which isn't bad considering I was in Nottingham on a stag do Sat night and didn't wake up on the Sunday till gone 12.

I lose entire days to this game.

Only days?!?!?! I worked out at the start of summer last year that I had owned the game since the day of release (Friday the 4th november 05) that i must have put in over 800 hours on that game (weeks lost to it)

Still love it, despite the crys of THE COMPUTER WANTS ME TO LOOSE!!! :D

I do remember enjoying it for a while when i played Civ III, but now i just can't get back into it. Easy for single turns to take upwards upwards of 15 minutes sometimes.

Perhaps it was because i was always so bad at it :p It took considerable effort to not play expansionist until i had a tech advantage then rape everyone with Modern Armours and instead to try and attack people earlier on if i could. Then again i only ever played it on the easiest difficulty ><

I started playing III at 11 last night, big mistake! I finished (well I say finished, declared peace with someone in 1954 and saved) at 8am... I remember now what one of the reasons I stopped playing it was... :(

It's really annoying, i'm only playing it on one above easy and I seemed to be way ahead, went to start a war and suddenly the other nation had the same things as me, took a couple of his cities and agreed to peace after around 20 turns as I wasn't getting anywhere... I'm trying not to win on the space ship creation as that's to easy.

Anyone found a way to save the tutorial, I don't have time to go through it all in one go & really cba restarting it every time?

1 thing I cannot seem to do is go into space or use the SDI. I have everything built and researched but no idea how fly to Alpha Centauri :(
