Yes im very aware i've made a few posts about type-r's lately and i'll make sure this is my last for "a while" :p

Just curious why they sound so different when in the powerband. The ATR sounds a lot more 'grunty' and the CTR sounds a lot more high pitched ? I definitely prefer the sound of the ATR, its just that bit more menacing sounding to me.

If in the future if I got a CTR..is it easy to get the CTR sounding a bit deeper like the ATR with just a decent induction kit or is it the ATR's exhaust system too?

I am not talking about making it much 'louder', just a bit more menacing sounding like the ATR. Naturally i'd still want it to stay reasonably quiet when in low rev's.

Maybe someone can shed some light on this as to why they sound so different? :D

Different engines for a start - ATR's got a 2.2, CTR's got a 2.0.

IIRC its not just capacity either, they are quite different? Not entirely sure on the details

Apart from the capacity being different, they'll have different cam profiles, different manifold/exhaust and different induction.

Search for a vid of a CTR with a GruppeM induction kit fitted, they sound equally as 'grunty' as any ATR.

CTR's as standard, do indeed sound crap.

Type-R's are crap ;)

A grupe M or AEM CAI will beef up the sound

I went out in a friends Integra Type R DC2 JDM the other night and my god did that sound the ****. I think it revved to nearly 9kprm in 3rd gear and the VTEC was quite pronounced.

With an exhaust system and air filter it would have sounded better IMO.

yeah they are totally different engines...although the k-series really is based off the F-series (S2K) which is basically the same as H-series (ATR).

The h22 in the accord has quite a long stroke and quite a few other things (such as the use of standard old school DOHC VTEC) which make it sound different.

The k20a has i-vtec, an intake manifold with shorter runners, and a shorter stroke which makes it sound the way it does.

That said, slap on any aftermarket intake on and it will sound much deeper.

I mean I had a little b16 with intake, header, exhaust, and a few other things and it sounded quite deep and mean....it didn't really sound like a 1.6 at all....

I've just come back from a drive in the Peak District with about 20 odd CTRs. One was supercharged with full Spoon exhaust and custom induction that could wake the dead, some just had an AEM induction kit and others that that plus a cat back system.

Not one sounded alike bar the standard cars. You can mix and match parts to get the best out of the sound of a car. Personally I want a Buddy Club Spec IV exhaust. The Spec III is the best performer but it's very noisy, the Spec IV sings in the VTEC but is fairly quiet otherwise. Coupled with the induction growl of a Gruppe M induction and you've got yourself a lovely sounding piece of kit. For performance, a K-Pro and a full remap is the way to go. 30-40bhp gains with exhaust and induction on top.

yeah the amount of power that can be unleashed on the k20a with simple bolt-ons and a nice k-pro tune is pretty amazing.

Very true......unless you have the new one with no parts available apart from a open cone induction kit and DBW so no k-pro. When well decent parts be out :(
