Civil Ceremony - stuggling with Music choice

I am also getting married soon, so will be keeping a close eye on this thread. Thanks OP for saving me a job.

if you want the grannies to turn on the tears, Barbers adagio for strings..... if you want the boys grinning, that F1 teams rendtition of When the Saints come marching in !

Go for Whale Song for the waiting bit and then the dambusters theme tune as the bride enters.
Save Ride of the Valkyries for the exit.

Um, Adagio for Strings sounds more suited to a funeral tbh. Mind you, getting married is the end of your normal enjoyable life as you know it so maybe it is appropriate after all ;)

EDIT: Pachelbel's Canon is a good choice but very corny.

How about Prodigy: "Smack my b***h up"?

Road to Perdition by Thomas Newman

Yes it's the soundtrack to the film but it's an utterly fantastic, dignified and moving piece of music. I wouldn't be able to have it at my wedding...I'd probably start blubbing lol.

The Schindler's List music (John Williams) is a bit like that for me :) That and Bach's Piano Concerto in A minor, and Chopin's Nocturne in E minor (op 72 no.1) - which I MUST learn to play before I die :)

Get a bit emotional playing Moonlight Sonata 1st mvt too on the piano :)

EDIT: Chopin would be an excellent choice for "idling" music beforehand. Oozes class. If not, try looking at Zbigniew Preisner's piano pieces. Good Morning Melody/Meditation woudl be good.

EDIT2: Or Colonel Abrams: Trapped.... LOL

Thanks for the ideas. I've ordered a Wedding Compilation CD with Bach/Handel etc on, so we'll see what's what when that arrives.

Like Enya too so we're looking into that.

:)

Just found the paperwork from ours and, assuming this is correct we had

Bridal Party - Pachabel - Cannon in D

Bride's Processional - Air from water music - Handel

Unity candle ( american ceremony ) - Ave Maria

and then we had a "personal" track for the recessional

the above was a Beatles track used by Sky television at the end of the program when Liverpool won the Champion's League ( in my life ) , ooh I'm an old smoothy me :p

Imperial March from the Star Wars films?

That's what I would have like for when I got married but my wife didn't like it for some reason. She made me choose something else so my second choice was "Wouldn't it be nice" by The Beach Boys.

Um, corny but how about Mendellsohn's Wedding march for the Bride entrance? Or Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik for waiting if you want to make it "classy"

Don't you think Eine Kleine Nachtmusik is a little harsh for a wedding? I really wouldn't say it was "classy".

Pachelbels Cannon seems to be very popular, I was going to suggest it as something nice and mellow. Ave Maria is good too.

Do you know what instruments you're going to have yet? There are some beautiful violin pieces, but they wouldn't sound right on a piano/keyboard, so there's not much point in suggesting them if you're going for a piano.

It's going to be on CD. No musicians etc.

We're trying to keep an eye on costs, originally set a budget of £4,500 for the day but that's running out fast. It'll be quite a small wedding too - only be about 35 people to the day. Just 2 hours for the ceremony in a local stately home type place is costing £750.

We don't have family to help out with the costs, but even if we did we wouldn't want a big glitzy wedding - just not our style.

Dunno why people are so fascinated by Tchaik :S He is over rated - 1812 overture is the only thing that really makes him famous IMO. I've been to plenty of concerts where his pieces have been played and have been underwhelmed tbh.
Piano Concerto No. 1 - Sublime.
