A really tame dove! Although I think it may have damaged it's right wing as it's trailing it. :(

Shame... as it just waddles and sits even when I was outside with it.

Theres quite a lot of feathers around it, and it does look like its wing is hurt. Best bet would have been throwing a towl over it and putting it in a shoebox to take to the vet. Wouldn't be suprised if its just escaped a run-in with a cat or dog.

lol yeah that's bread. Just to update you as I had to laugh, I phoned the RSPCB and they said could I catch it for them, so I've put a big box with holes in over it. As it's still here this morning. They then said (this is last night) can you assure us that it will still be there in the morning.

HAHAHa hold on, I'll just go outside and ask it. FFS! I was like, errmmm no! So apparently they should be here soon to take it away.

But they were saying to me, can you take it to a vet and stuff. I was like, shall I do the rest of your job for you? Imagine if I called the firebrigade.... "oh can you do us a favour and just start throwing water over the fire for us please.... oh, and can you confirm that the fire will still be burning when we get there". LOL.

Haha, sounds like a bit of a farce to be honest. They're lucky you didn't just break its neck and chuck it in the bin...

Lol well the sad thing is, they eventually arrived after 2 days of this bird being kept in a box only to say.... "hmmm yeah it's wing's broken (well, dur!) so yeah, we'll have to put it down unfortunately". I should have just left it out wandering around... at least it was happy!

Oh well... drama over for another day!

Feel free to donate them some funding so they can afford to spread themselves even thinner :)

Or you could realise that protection of wildlife is up to everyone, you cant just ask someone else to do it for you because you cant be bothered, then expect it done right now.

An analogy to the fire service is not entirely appropriate, even they would have to prioritise if they didnt have the resources to put out a burning trashcan while several houses across the county were on fire - there are only so many fire engines and there are only so many RSPB officers.

Sorry to rant, but the wildlife protection organisations take so much stick while the average Joe does nothing to help :( It's the Human responsibility to protect our world and all of the living things in it and they try very hard to do so, on all of our behalves.

Save me the heart throb story. They were absolutly rubbish when I spoke to them, and they had the same old "we have over 100 calls a day to deal with". That maybe so, but to feed me lies that "the nearest person was 70 miles away" and then 10 minutes later he was in "the area". Wow, I'd love to know how to travel 70 miles in 10 minutes!

Plus the fact they were 2 days late and didn't have the decency to call to explain. After I chased them, only then, was action taken. I was then fed more lies that the person had been calling me for the last 1hr as he couldn't find the address. Well saying as I had the phone in my hand, it never rang once!

The whole service was pathetic, and your wrong... can't be bothered?!?! I took the initiative to call them in the first place, chase them up, feed the bird, and give it shelter in a box! I guess I should go down to the RSPCA headquaters and wipe all their a*ses as well.

After all of that time wasted, they just put the bird down anyway! So what was the actual point??? Hmmm nothing!

So I can't see how I've done nothing to help? I've called the relevant people who tried to feed me the sob story that they are too busy to actually help in the first place.

From my experience, they deserve the stick they get.

You went to that effort, but complain when they suggest you contact a local vet because that would be doing their job, but it isnt their job any more than it is yours, they do it when they can because other people wont.

Of course, I understand if you couldnt actually take it to the vet... theres nothing wrong with that, we're all busy people. I'm just trying to explain that so are they.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be having a go at you, and mean no offence... clearly you didn't have as good an experience of animal welfare as I have before. They really do some amazing work... most of the time :(

Firstly I'd say good on you for trying to help the poor bird, there isn't enough people in this world that would!

I was looking out of my bedroom one morning when I saw a dog attack a collared dove over the nearby field, it was running around with it in it's mouth. The owners called it away and just left the bird, I couldn't believe it.

So muggins here ended up searching the edges of the field to find the bird, put it in a dark place and called the RSPCA (RSPB didn't even come to mind :o ).
They picked it up later that day, don't know what happened to it. (I had no way of getting to the vets that day)
I just couldn't believe the dog owners left it to it - callous (and lazy) swines.

Anyway good on you! *hearty pat on the back*

As a general note it's often easier and quicker to take injured wildlife down to the vets, they have a duty of care to wildlife and it doesn't cost whoever takes it down a bean as it's not a domestic pet, I can vouch for that with numerous hedgehogs etc. over the years.
