clean format

i have an hdd which has windows on it and i wish to wipe it clean so i can use my new ssd.
i understand how format it using windows but i was wondering if there is a programe out that can do the job better than windows.

For just formatting it? No. To securely erase it, yes. http://www.dban.org/

i have two hdd's and one ssd. i only wish to erase one hdd. will this wipe all disks?

If you are going to use dban just unplug the drives you don't want to erase if you are worried about making a mistake.

Unless you are giving the drive to another person erasing it in Windows is fine.
