So I want to do a clean install of windows but the version i have is SP1. So when i install all the windows updates should i install all of the updates before installing SP2 or can i install SP2 as soon as winupdate says its available?

Download an ISO of Windows XP - which is fully legal IIRC, as long as you use your own serial number.

Then slipstream SP2 into the ISO, and burn.

Thanks for the guide but that seems like it would take a lot of time and rather than walking away and leaving it installing/dling i would have to spend a lot of time making copies etc.

What is the actual benefit of slipstreaming SP2?

look at Nlite best and fastest way to integrate and add drivers and just about anything you want. Also take a look at the RyanVM Update Pack to add 99% of update for the last few months.

If your just adding drivers and updates +SP2 then the process will take about 30mins including burning the CD.

You can get the standalone SP2 installer, it's usually the first thing I'd run after re-installing XP SP1 on my PC. Switched to Vista now though.
