Hi all,

Quick question. I've just done a clean install of Windows 8.1 PRO x64 onto my new Crucial MX100 256GB SDD. I installed from my Windows 8.1 DVD.

I accessed the boot menu in the normal way to select my DVD drive as the boot device to start the install. However, there were two boot options for my DVD drive: the first was just the name of the DVD Drive (as normal), the second (which I have not noticed before) was the name of my DVD drive with 'UEFI' next to it...so I picked that.

Now when Windows loads I get the 'Asus' logo instead of the blue Windows logo, however, with the usual turning circular blobs underneath it.

Any ideas?

PS> Also noticed that the Windows setup loaded up in the native res of my monitor (1080) soon after booting from the DVD, never seen that before. Aside from the DVD drive, the SSD was the only drive connected at the time of install.

Aside from this, all is well and I'm about to start getting all the updates.

Cheers.

Cool, thanks guys!

Yeah, the new SSD is great, Windows loads in about 2-3 seconds from post and is lovely and snappy.

The SSD and a GTX 970 G1 were my early Christmas presents! :D

I use UEFI without an issue. The Ultrafast boot option in my Gigabyte mobo makes it boot immensely quick. At the password promt to log in 3-4 seconds from a cold boot.

You can also have an UEFI Bios all set to same fast boot options but Windows installed the old way, this does not stop you having 5TB GPT HDD's.

Yes it will boot a tad slower than a full blown UEFI install, like 1-2secs.

Again read that link or Google more info from likes of MS.

I will probably do it that way next time but this install was simply a clone of last ones backup onto new bigger SSD after a failure of one.

In the Windows section in this forum many did not like it for various reasons (cannot remember TBH).

Your SSD/HDD will have multiple little partitions once you go that way, if that bothers you on a smaller SSD.
