Cleaned my Logitch G500 mouse with alcohol and now the buttons seem to do random things.....help

So my G500 was gummed up with some general day to day crap (had it for like 6 years) so I took it all apart and cleaned it all with 99% isopropyl alcohol and some ear buds.

It was really disgusting inside as i think i spilled tea on it a few years ago and it seemed to just attract dust.

Anyway i cleaned it all and it worked fine for a few hours but now it seems the buttons are just randomly doing anything!

When i middle click it middle clicks but if i left click it will double click and right click seems to be middle click....

everything is topsy-turvy and i have no idea why, I gave it a good full night wrapped in a towel ontop a radiator to make sure all the alcohol evaporated so it cant be that.

Why help would be great as i love this mouse....

Sounds pretty terminal I'm afraid. I also have this mouse and have enjoyed using it for many years

Perhaps its worth opening back up just to make sure everything is connected as it should be?

Everything is back to how it was, i just stripped it to all its individual peaces and basically bathed them in the alcohol to make sure i didnt dislodge some grime into electrical lines. Left it on a radiator for a few hours and now it seems to be working again.

I basically soaked the switches and clicky buttons to the point it was pouring out and it seemed to ooze brown liquid, mopped it up and flushed again.

So will have a good play about and see if it continues to be ok, if its fine I will order some new feet.

I love this mouse so much, going back to my MX518 or G5 just seems so wrong......its like this G500 has the perfect acceleration/speed for me.....they are going for hundreds of £ on ebay so there is no way to get a replacement.

you sure you rinsed all the original gunk out, and didn't just flush it to a different area? also I'm not sure what the insides of the g500 are like but I don't think it's a good idea putting isopropyl alcohol onto light plastic membranes and the like, I'm sure it's powerful enough to corrode that material - though I could be wrong

Its fine on most electronic surfaces, the inside of the mouse is very bare bones, 3 small PCB's and some switches, it basically just dissolves any oily gunk and the dried sugary tea i spilled.

Its fine on that sort of stuff but you never put it near delicate plastics and rubbers so the outside of the mouse you dont use it on.

And with it being 99% it leaves no residue behind. Its very common to submerge mobile phones/tablets in the stuff if they have been water damaged as it dissolves all the gunk left behind and displaces the water, then it all evaporates hopefully leaving a nice clean and dry device.

ah ok, only ever used it for cleaning TIM off cpu's/heatsinks. fingers crossed it keeps going for you. I've never yet found anything that has properly replaced my beloved mx518

I have an mx518 and a brand new G5 in my drawer as replacements but I have the same problem as you, my G500 just feels perfect to me and im just so used to it......

God knows why manufacturers dont just make a good mouse and stick with it! its not like mice tech progresses enough to warrant a new model every X years when they could just keep the same design and placement for people who love their mice.....

Really annoys me that if I need a mouse now they all look like some weird Sci Fi sex toy instead of a normal mouse.......

yea I don't understand the decision to EOL the MX518, it was so popular. I'm sure they could have simply upgraded the internals and left the outside, feel and grip as it was, but hey ho that's progress for you I guess
