Cleaning cpu

Cleaning the old thermal paste off my CPU (E6600), just got a question.

I've removed most of it with loo roll, but there is still some of the paste left on there (From the stock heatsink). I've hunted around the house and come up with a bottle of Tesco Value white spirit. Would this do the job (Combined with a lint fee cloth which I'm going to go and buy), or should I leave it how it is?
