That's what I use too. Pure acetone is dirt cheap and you don't pay more because it says Akasa / Arctic Silver on the side.

isopropyl alcohol does the job with kitchen roll. (The one with thirst pockets )
A friend of mine has used WD40 before,
now he has a dead motherboard. Wonder why. 
I did buy thermal paste cleaner once but only as it was cheap at the time and to kill my new cpu for using the wrong stuff would be a gutter.
