Cleaning Perspex

How do you do yours?

I find that no matter what I use it leaves very small scratches, and because I just got myself a new case I wish to refrain from scratching it! Any hints or tips?

perspex scratches so easily... maybe a feather duster is best

Definately a fine brush. You can get ones for cleaning TV's from, well, pretty much anywhere. Then a microfibre cloth would do. As said, a can of compressed air works wonders.

my A-17 will take a sheet of 4mm hardened glass.... no hole in the side panel ......... the whole side glass!

but there are a few problems with this:-

1...... i'll be able to see areas inside where i'd rather not

2.......it'll be much noisier, because the existing panel has accoustic foam on it

but, it seems a shame to fit all this fancy gear and not be able to see it.

Bad idea, kitchen roll is pretty coarse, in this instance I would suggest microfibre

The duster is what i use most of the time but if it needs a proper clean (not dust) then i use the kitchen roll and water

Might give the window cleaner a blast next time though!

tissue/ toliet paper/ old shirt...... that'll scratch it........... it needs to be a very fine cloth...... my Armour window is scratched to hell, and i swear i've never mistreated it... it just happens.

the best bet is maybe to remove the side panel every 3 months and rinse under a shower and let it drip dry..a large soft paint brush shouldn't mark, just load it up with washing up liquid

it's applying pressure that marks it.......... mine is covered in circular scratches

Solvent cleaner buddy,

When i worked for a UPVC window company we used it, works a treat, What kind of cloth im not to sure, But if you arent touching it i would go with the Can of air to blow the dust of,

Ally will scratch easily too, i have to cover over the 2 internal panels with Accoustic, or polish them ( not sure which)

i used an old Jay cloth to clean the panels, and it must have had grit in it..or dried paint....... it's put circular scratches all over the interior 2 panels..

luckily the exterior panels are upstairs under my bed..... well out of the way.

i've only just noticed it..... this has really upset me.

these two panels are easy to cover over/ remove... but it means more money/ hassle.

I use a 2 inch Paintbrush and the softest duster i can find.

If you do scratch the hell out the perspex use something like Xerapol to buff out scratches, costs about £12 for 50g kit.

I remember using a product very similar to this one at school many years ago and it removes the scratches easy as pie. (Although we had a buffing wheel to do ours at school rather than doing it by hand)

Anyway to remove said scratches?

I have some pretty big ones but they arent that deep, would be nice to remove them even if its partial.

I work with Acrylic a lot. Depends on the scratches. If they're light some Greygate polish. Deeper and some Tripoli (brown) polishing compound with a very soft mop head (not the type for cleaning floors), finished with Greygate.

Or a NOVUS polishing kit works well.

And dont use Acetone. It will melt it. I believe pure IPA is a good solvent to use.
