Cleaning waterblocks?

Guys, I was wondering if someone could tell me how to properly clean my blocks?

My GTX280 block is starting to get green bits on it, and the black screws that hold the acrylic plate onto the block have started getting rust on them.

I tried to clean it with a water/vinegar solution before, and it did look like it had cleaned it nicely, but when I checked the block the next day it had went all tarnished again.

I also found a website that recommended covering the block with tomato sauce and leaving it to sit for 30 minutes before scrubbing it off, this again made it look really bright and shiny, but the next day it was all dull and tarnished again!

Could it be something to do with rinsing it off with tap water that is causing this?

Should I use DI water for rinsing it off?

Any tips would be much appreciated guys, thanks in advance.

ketchup works great because it has vinegar in it. As for the tarnish, you could polish the upside of the block but don't do that to the base.

Thanks mate, but how can I go about rinsing the ketchup off?

As I am pretty sure it had something to do with rinsing it off with tap water that caused it to get tarnished again.

Also what would you recommend I polish it with?

New de-ionised water to rinse. There shouldnt be anything in the water to tarnish the block i wouldnt think.

halfords should have some

Thanks mate, I bought a 5 litre bottle of DI water from Halfords the other day, so I will rinse the block with that this time.

The last 2 times I tried cleaning them I rinsed with tap water, and I made sure I dried it thorougly to, it had a really nice shine to it after I finished cleaning it, but the next day when I checked it, it had became all tarnished again.

And when I took it out yesterday it had got green marks in places, and all the screws that hold the acrylic top onto the block were starting to rust..

I really dont want this happening again, but I dont know what to do to prevent this..

Try brass screws if you can fine them to avoid the rusting?
Dont know what to say about the blocks green blemishes. What fluid do you have in your loop?

I haven't got my loop setup yet mate, this block was bought 2nd hand off the MM here.

But I will be using DI water with a silver kill coil once I get it setup.
