Hi guys,

Quick question and a boring thread for that I am sorry.

What is the trick to cleaning windows without getting all those smear marks everywhere? I can't stand it when I can see where I've been cleaning, does my head in.

The back window in particular is annoying me...just where the hi-level brake light is there is a patch which mists up yet the rest of the window doesn't. I have removed the light previously and tried my best to clean it up but it steams up as you're doing because it's quite hard being a saloon, and all not being able to lift up a hatch.

I've tried opening the doors to let out the heat from my body and breathe, but doesn't work, so is there a special technique to doing this?

Sounds like your cloth isn't absorbent enough. The trick to cleaning windows is to use a very absorbent cloth and decent glass cleaner. I use tissue that is designed for cleaning windows, you can get it at PVC warehouses etc. A microfiber towel would do the job as well if you have one, or even 100% cotton, just make sure whatever you use is lint free.

Another tip is a small amount of glass cleaner goes a long way, put a very small amount on the glass then wipe it till its gone. Fold the cloth on the last few wipes so that your using a dry bit to get rid of every last bit of moisture. There shouldn't be any smears if you do that, unless you have something on your glass.

I use kitchen roll & mr muscle glass cleaner (or similar). Seems to do the job well.

Get Tesco's value kitchen roll and a bottle of AutoGlym Fast glass. The more expensive kitchen rolls do absorb more water but don't dry the glass like the cheap stuff. I used to use Mr Muscle but found when the "improved formula" version came along a few months ago it now leaves a residue that you notice when the sun hits the glass.

I then finish with AutoGlym glass polish and after this the glass is really transparent in all light conditions. You need to use hundreds of the kitchen roll (typically I use nearly a whole roll to do both inside and out of all windows, mirrors and instrument binnacle) but since it is the value range it is still cost effective. The waste can also go in the recycle bin ;-)

use autoglym glass polish also, never had any issues with it.

And a good microfibre cloth, use it on the outside and you will notice a massive difference when it rains!

Supposidly Stoner - Invisible Glass is good too, can be had at cleanyourcar.co.uk

Free Newspapers, also known as... Free Newspapers, are delivered to pretty much every house in the UK... we get about three a week... I even used to work for one. Were you really unaware of their existence?

I don't get a free newspaper, well i used to get one ages ago and it came bundled with 100 advert leaflets .

Does the die in newspaper not run?.
