Ok, first of all, this is not my hard drive :P I noticed the clicking today when i turned on my computer, its very loud clicks twice every second continuously and is deffo coming from the PSU. My speakers also do a deep thud to the same beat and downstairs my television is doing it as well. So i think it might be something to do with the mains electrical. The light on my extension socket is also flashing very faintly.

I've tripped the main switch box on and off, still there. No idea how it started or how to resolve. Has anyone had this before its terrible!

any ideas of help much appreciated

yeah pretty much, its been on A LOT recently, but i turn it off at night very often. There are also 2 pther people living in this house, the person downstairs could have her computer on 24/7 for all i know, never see her :P

ok yeah its deffo when my PC is on.

Is it dangerous to have it on whilst its making this noise ? could it blow and take out my computer ? I'll order a new one straight away, not taking the risk. Its out of warranty too :(

thanks for your help

dont suppose its something i can fix.

Lysander says it is 100% poltergeist activity.

or

Does it still come out of the TV when you turn yoour PC off?
If so then we all saw the film Poltergeist.

or

If it is still clicking on the TV when your PC is turned off you need to turn electrical items off 1 by 1 until you find the culprit.
It could be something simple like a kettle getting ready to die

or a poltergeist

every thread where people mentioning clicking there is either a mention of a bomb about to blow or some sort of supernatural activity!

I wouldn't poke around inside the PSU unless you know exactly what you are doing. There are big bad voltages present in there that can do lots of damage to you!

It doesn't sound good, especially seeing that it's a problem that's developed suddenly/over time rather than being an inherent quirk of the unit. Maybe try googling around to see if there are any other people with similar issues, but to be safe I would stop using it right away.

:edit: I've moved this to General Hardware... this should help avoid the above examples of replies that are typical from the resident window lickers :p

It's the Solar flares hitting earth!

OK, probably not. Most likely swamp gas/weather balloon, something like that.

Buuuut seriously, I wouldn't poke around in your PSU unless you're absolutely sure you know what you're doing.

What spec are you running? I'll happily recommend you a decent PSU from OcUK to replace that one.

my current spec is old looking to upgrade later this year for BF3 release

currently on

old e6420 overclocked to 3.52ghz
4gb ram
2x 1TB hard drives
6 fans
ati 4850

Corsair

The TX650W is a solid choice if you're happy to hide the cables etc, otherwise I'd go for a modular one, depending on the case and so on. The modular models do have quite a premium on them.

Only thing with Corsair you have to bear in mind is that OcUK won't take them back after 1 year, so the warranty is in the Netherlands and you'll be paying £20 easily to ship it back out there.
