i have a client that wants the same i7 spec as mine (see sig for detail)

but asked if there was anything newer and better out than my spec?

also wants a different case? any ideas, what is a nice case for a big build

also he wants watercooling, i haven't a clue whats a good watercooling system too another, can you help me with that too?

he said he doesn't mind if it costs more than £3000.

he's an architecture, and his system now, is on 24/7

Thanks if you can help

oo and almost forgot, he's big on cleanliness, so cable management would need to be a must he told me lol

i'm building it, the watercoolings going to be a first for me though

i found the v8 hard to fit the LGA1366 bracket but got it in and the temps are very low must admit, haven't over clocked yet though. one warning though ITS HUGE, i don't think it will fit in some cases, so if you do buy one make sure your case can accommodate it.

Hmm...to be honest you spec is excellent as it is. I would perhaps add 3GB more RAM, another 4870X2, or go for the 295s. Don't know much about watercooling, so someone else can help with that.

Also, what sort of temps are you getting idle and load on the V8, how would you compare it to say a TRUE or something similar.

If your looking for a case with clean lines, i would go alone the Lian Li path, cant beat thenm for clean lines.

Also, if hes willing to spend the money, go for 6GB of RAM.

For watercooling, only need to cool CPU and Gfx really.
If you have the time, buy a custom kit, rather than one already put together.
Read up about it yourself and fit it yourself, it will get much nicer temps

well on idle gettin about 30-35c and max load anywhere between 50-55. with the highest ive ever seen it at 61c

i have used a TRUE before in a clients spec (q9550) over clocked to 3.4GHz and that on idle was 37c and max load 68c.

the cpu's are different and one is over clocked so cant make an exact judgement on the beter one, but the TRUE did perform very well on the oc'd q9550.

Thanks for that, lian-li didn't cross my mind, but they are very good looking thanks.

i'll take a look on the site now then for wc bits :)

basicly this is what ive come up with the client insisted on a new 30in moniter so the dell is the best one you can buy, i took away the raptor and used a ssd drive. and added an extra 4870x2

the moniter he said he wil pay for, and i shouldnt deduct the price from the pc budget. so take £1000 of the build price. still in the £3000 he wanted

what do you guys think?

All looks great, but people are always split on the SSD's.
I've never owned one, but from what i have heard from other people, stay away from them, unless your going to buy the Intel ones.
The compatability isnt great, and they are'nt that reliable.

But again, thats just what I have read

yes i was going to go for the intel SSD's, but they are extremely overpriced for what they are, even if my client said he doesn't mind the price, i don't want to give him open wallet surgery.

i think i will switch back to the 300GB raptor drive then, becuase they have been flawless for me.

Yeh looks good. Stick with the raptors for the moment. Also, for the RAM go for 3x2GB. Why not add a blu-ray writer instead of the reader?

good idea!
G.Skill 6GB DDR3 NQ PC3-12800C9 1600MHz (3x2GB) Triple Channel DDR3

that stuff any good?

also added the LG blu-ray rewriter, and a sony 22x dvd burner with light scribe

Theres the perfect build, thanks guys, i've got a friend of mine to order the watercooling. but im just going to stick the v8 on there for now. after i finished the build i'll post some pics. that must be a dream machine, it is mine, wish i could afford another 4870x2 lol

Lol, I don't know why it's a dream for you. You've got pretty much the same spec!

A dream for me more like. I look forward to seeing pics of your setup.

You might as well get an x2000 rather than an x500 as I'd assume it accomodates water cooling better. Plus he's got the budget for it. Man that's a nice rig. If only I had that much cash to blow.
