Hi Guys

Got a problem with a 1.6 Clio (55) ...

The car was opened the other morning and all of a sudden the horn started to sound continually. I’m pretty sure the car has no alarm and also it was as if I had my hand held on the horn. This continued for around 5 minutes and stopped. Then the car started to be driven and the horn beeped another few times but this time didn’t stay on. At first I thought it was an alarm issue but I’m pretty sure that

A. The car does not have an alarm
B. The alarm would not be a constant beep (as if you held your hand on the horn continually)

Now when I press the horn nothing happens whatsoever .... Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be ? I’m going to get hold of another horn to try but i can’t see that causing the horn to go off this morning like it did ?

Cheers

Sam

Someone who used to work at OcUK had a clio which did this, his whole electrics were screwed and it cost close to £1k to fix. He did have the 2.0 182 version though with all the gubbins.

to be perfectly honest i'd just unplug the horn till mot time came, then get the garage to stick in a relay for you while they do whatever else needs doing. A relay itself will be under £20 or if you get a second hand one a couple quid. It'd be worth doing some googling and finding out where the relay is, and replacing it yourself with a part from the bay or your local breaker.

Problem is mate you know what women are like, if its broken shes going to want it fixed so ill have a look into this relay thing. Prob see if i can get one from my mates scrap yard to see if it solves the problem

thanks mate :)

You should test the relay 1st, it could still be the method they use to connect to the switch that failed.

I can't find a wiring diagram or workshop manual, so I can't offer any clues about where the horn relay would be.
