Also I'm thinking of turboing it in maybe 2-3 years time but this depends on what happens of course ;)

Total and utter waste of time and money, in a few years time the turbo conversion will cost more than the cars worth.

Well we'll see what happens, by that time it may be possible to do more of a homebrew kit etc.

I'm going to book a test drive of one in the next few weeks, if the power and handling etc are spot on the I'd probably prefer not to bother incase it ruined it if you know what I mean.

I don't recall many people, if any, bolting a turbo on.
Most who are looking to spend big go for cams/valve work, but in all honesty the engine isn't great for tuning.

that the paint at the front isn't too chipped (sign of being ragged a lot)
I'd've said thats more a sign of it getting a lot of motorway time than being ragged a lot. How does a chipped bonnet tell you it has been ragged? :/

Chasing other cars will get you more stone chips than doing a lot of motorway miles, ahem...erm in my experience :o

I've got several stone chips on my clio getting close to spraying the bonnet, i don't chase cars but i do 60 miles on the motorway each day.

Ah, thats racing though, not ragging. Only buffoons and idiots would race on the Queen's highway, wouldn't they merlin? ;)

I had a lot more stone chips on my Fiesta than my Clio, and dis a lot more motorway mileage back then. I suppose there may be a difference in quality of paint too, but I wouldn't have thought it made that much difference.

It already does cost more than the cars worth :P It's 7k for a BB Tuning conversion.

I think there have been two people bar BB to have them done, one guy on CS has had his car left with bb for about 10 weeks for one, they are waiting on the pistons.

Not sure 0-60 times but I remember seeing the figure 13.3 being bounded about for the BB car down the strip, but also saw that was with slicks?

Still, 250+ bhp would be fun, but 7k??

Better to go for an AWT/GDi setup of reworked inlet, cams, smt6 etc, should see you to 200.

The best way to get more power a while back seemed to be throttle bodies but I don't know if people are still doing it the conversion yealded about 200bhp with a few other tweaks.

Can't be bothered to mess with mine it would be much more economical to buy a different (preferably RWD) car if I wanted a power increase.

Agreed I'm not bothering with mine as I could sell it ,add the 3-4k it would cost for tbs on and buy something better :)

Cost wise the cams route seems to be the best performance per pound mod, tbs are pretty pricey :(

People are talking about port polishing being a cost effective way of getting better mpg with about 5-10bhp increase and a less lumpy idle when cold, this is just about the only mod I would consider on the 172. Might go over to GDI and get it done at some point but I think I can think of better things to do with £200.

The only problem is though, you might get 0 bhp increase, depends on how well manufactured the batch were that you have on your car.

Bit hit and miss.

god damit, now one of my mates is trying to get me to buy a nice tidy fiat coupe in metallic blue. Having a look around the do look lovely inside.

They ming on the outside though, one of the ugliest cars on the road. Get a Clio, much nicer.

Bens inlet work is quite stunning imho, and a bargain. I think the mild rework is also ok to run the standard ecu with.

I'd love to get mine upto a useable 200bhp & another 80kg off the weight, she would absolutely fly! I couldn't ever justify spending/losing the cash though.

Coco, I still need to give you your towing eye back.

Mail me if you want me to send it over.
