Clocking the E2180 - theory?

Hi, I'm an overclocker but have been out of the scene for a bit. I'm speccing a PC for a mate (and his g/f) and have been told about the E2180. Is the theory just to increase the FSB from 200 to 333 (to go from FSB800 to FSB1333) (or similar increment) to get this little 2 gig chip up to close to 3gig?

If doing this, do I need to be careful about what Ram I buy, or will PC2-6400 be ok?

Thanks.

I clocked the E2140 to 3Ghz for a friend the other day without even changing stock voltages (became unstable if i tried to lower it any further tho) - so id imagine getting 3Ghz should theoretically be even easier :). That was using PC2 6400 too.

was also thinking about getting a e1280 and clocking (for the first time) to 3ghz since i have been told is easy, minimal risk. but my question is about the ram, i currently have 667's in my pc and on upgrade i kinda wanted to use them on my new mobo to save money, the mobo i have chosen will take 800's so would it be a good idea for me to make this upgrade since 2 gb of 800's only cost £35, and also the 667's can be kept on my RS400-a when i use it to upgrade my oldddd P3450 :)

If ddr2 800 only supported 800MT/s like that table says, that wouldn't be enough for a cpu with an fsb of 1333MT/s. Which are normally shipped with DDR2 667 ram. Unless the statement that "you need ram with half the fsb of the cpu" is assuming dual channel mode. There seems to be little detailed information about how ddr2 works on the internet.

EDIT - Apparantly the cpu never reaches that amount of bandwidth, so you only ever need the same fsb as the cpu.

CPUs are quad pump so a 1333 cpu is has a MB FSB of 333, so DDR2 PC6400 (2x400MHz is plenty). So DDR2 Pc6400 (800Mhz) will support CPU up to FSB1600.

Due to its x 10 Multi, 667 will run fine if you put the chip to 3 gig. Most Mobo's can run the CPU and Mem at different speads anyway and it makes little difference to performance.
