clocks automatically updated from signal in Rugby

I've always wondered about this, and there are more clocks appearing which have their time synchronised by a signal broadcast from Rugby, UK.

The thing is, some of these clocks are travel clocks (some watches too) - so what happens when you travel abroad? Can it still pick up the signal? Does it mean the clock will always display the UK time and not the local time?

Just wondered!

I have 4 clocks, each gets their time from a signal - I believe from Rugby at current, soon to move somewhere in Cumbria.

Whenever the clocks don't get a signal, they carry on ticking. As soon as they receive a signal, they correct themselves appropriately.

I have one of these, a travel one, it works ok 99% of the time. Every so often randomly changes the time to something completely different (always to the exact minute and second just not the hour!) then by the time I decide to sort it, it's back to normal again. I'd still get another though...and in the case of mine it could be to do with old age - the clock not me :p

Hi,

the wife has one from Germany, she use to live there. Here's gets it's time from Germany so is always an hour out.

It's able to pick a signal up all the way over here in the midlands  you can manually change it, but within the hour it's back to being German time.

So i would imagine much the same would happen to UK clocks, when abroad.

cheers

I have had mine pick up the signal in southern spain , you put the clock forward and it puts itself back again

I can turn the receiver off on mine, so then it just becomes a normal clock like any other clock. It's not exactly portable though, so I doubt I'll be travelling with it any time soon. :)

Yep, our video kept randomly changing it's date too which was rather annoying. Found out how to turn the 'feature' off & all is well!

I used to have a bedside alarm clock that also used the signal to 'correct' itself. After about the third time being late for work in a fortnight because it decided to randomise, I drop kicked it :)

And I live about 10 miles from (d)Rugby as well.

My alarm clock has the options of Frankfurt, Rugby, or I can just disable it.
So far it hasn't gone wrong once, it's lost the signal a few times (mainly during thunder & lightening) but has always picked it back up fine.

I've got one, and it has never had problems with randomly changing the time. When the clocks went back it took a while for it to get a signal, but that's probably location related.
