Hi Folks,

Not sure if this is possible but maybe one of you boffins can help.

Ive basically got a 2tb WD drive with my OS on a 500mb partition, I'd like to transfer the 500mb partition to a new 3tb drive (seagate) I have just purchased. As the drive is over 2tb It needs to be GPT, and unfortunately the old 2tb drive is MBR.

Whats the best way of doing this, the only bit of software I have is Macrium reflect free, but that seems to convert the 3tb to MBR, leaving me with only 2tb disk space.Would acronis help me out here? or any other bit of software?

Can anyone advise?

Have you tried to:

# Clone it and then create a new partition in the unused space? (Thus keeping MBR)
# Clone it then use Windows Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) to Extend the partition?

First off have you got a UEFI BIOS which supports booting a gpt disk and a 64bit OS which also supports gpt booting? Without both of those you're onto a non starter...

Are you limited to having only a single disk? If not then why not just use both? Boot from the WD and use the Seagate for extra storage.

Yep its uefi. I want to put the 2tb into an external enclosure and connect to my microserver for backups.Thats why i want to put the 3tb in the pc
