Afternoon all!

I have recently bought an SSD for a machine and I am trying to clone the existing HD.

I was advised in gen hardware to try Macrium Reflect.

I have followed the web tutorial and found youtube advice from them however I am hitting a problem.

I get an error code and the cloning does not start. The error code is:
"The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error"

I have tried a different sata port, a different cable and power. I am a bit stuck as to what to do next can anyone offer some advice please?

Thanks in advance

Indeed it does, I have tried lots of different options to clone but now I think the source disc has an error it cannot get past. chkdsk finds nothing. I am going to persevere with another machine as a test bench see what happens make sure it isn't the ssd at fault.

After that I will back up and clean re install. All round best option but the most laborious.

Out of interest has anyone been able to successfully clone a primary (bootable) hard disc from an sata to SSD and boot straight from it?

Thanks for the time all.

This means the drive is damaged.

chkdsk /R may get you around it, but I wouldn't really trust a Windows install that has required chkdsk.

Do a fresh install and bin the old drive.

Moving forward, take weekly/monthly system images using Macrium.
