Fun times...

Just been contacted by the police.

Sold my 335 a couple of weeks ago - and it seems the private plate I had on it prior to selling it (I have kept the plate on retention) has been cloned onto a similar looking car and is being used "for robberies" in and around the Birmingham area.

I look forward to receiving speeding tickets galore and god knows what else.

If anyone happens to see a black 3 series with S8AAN on it kicking about that area, please do contact west mercia police.

Hopefully this post isn't against forum rules, it's more a rant than a request ;)

Yikes - surely if the car has already been used in a robbery then that will be the end of them using the plate?

Will keep an eye out nonetheless as I live and work in the Brum area! (Why is it always Birmingham, LOL)

haha you'd think right, but you never know!!! :p

Seems a bit silly to use such a recognisable plate for this kind of thing, surely they would be better off with a standard plate from a similar car?

Makes no difference really they'll use it, bin it and stick another on.

Robbers, you have two types.

Those who rob because they are dumb and can't get a job, which could explain this.

Then the master mind criminals who pull it off and never leave a trace or get caught and are right now cruising on their yachts in the sun having a few beers surrounded by naked girls. :D

There was a car jacking at my work last week and it was a Black 3 series that the guys used to drive in and out of our carpark... This is in Kenilworth so not too far away

Damn, rumbled.

Better get some more plates cloned.

Strangely, I'm fairly certain I've seen S8AAN on a Black BMW of some sort around Slough recently.

But as the last two replies in this thread show people will notice a plate that stands out like that. Not the best idea if you're planning it on using it for crime as people will remember where they saw the car/what the driver looks like etc.

Could have been Reading, definitely somewhere between work (Slough) and home (Reading) and I'm almost positive it was on a black Beemer. It's a pretty distinctive plate.

with regards to numberplate choice by the criminals, reminds me of a post I saw not that long ago.

all fictional but shows the point.

mastermind criminal thinks he's boss and will never get caught because of his genius number plate.... goes out and gets a plate made up 1I1II11I1 (you get the idea.

herp-a-derp-a.....no one will ever be able to trace me as they won't be able to correctly identify the number plate with the 1's and I's being so confusing....

cops....."oh yeah... it's that arse again with with that plate that looks like all 1's" :p
