Hi

I am planning to clone my existing IDE drive to my new Western Digital Caviar SE 250GB SATA2/300 16MB Cache.

What is the best way to go about cloning from IDE to SATA

I currently dont have any SATA drivers installed but im not sure at what stage to install them.

I obviously dont want to lost any data and understand that starting windows with both drives fully cloned is a bad idea.

Any advice on this matter will be appreciated

Unless I'm very much mistaken I think you will need to format and re-install your system if, as you say, you have no SATA drivers installed. These drivers need to be installed during the installation of Windows. You hit the F6 key to install these drivers from a floppy or other removable disk. As far as I'm aware, it's not possible to install these drivers from Windows.

Thanks for all the advice.

The SATA drivers were already installed so i popped the new hard drive in formatted and used acronis true image to clone the drive. It automatically assigned it to C: so i didnt need to change anything. All i needed to do was to change the boot order in the bios and switch the old ATA to slave.

Job done!
