Cloning M2 to M2 but only with one M2 connector?

Hey guys :-) My lappy currently has a 512GB and I would like to double it to 1TB. Berlarc advisor says that it is M2 2242-sized PCIe Gen3. The laptop's disassembly guide said that it can also take 2280-sized, so 1TB is possible. A few questions:

1. As long as I pick 2280 size, PCIe and Gen3, is compatibility guaranteed?

2. How come they sometimes have 2 contacts at the end, while others have 3? The 1st pic shows 3 small-big-small contacts, while the 2nd pic shows 2 big-small contacts. I need to be certain what to get, but I think the 2nd pic is what I currently have. The model number is HFM512GDHTNG-8310A and that's what Google is giving me.

3. With the laptop having only one M2 interface and I don't have any other devices with M2, what hardware kit would I need to clone M2 to M2? Back in the SATA days, I had an external USB-SATA dock, so I put the new SSD in the dock while cloning from inside of the laptop. Then after cloning, I switched the drives.

4. What's the best bet for cloning software that would include the entire partition table e.g. OS, data and the manu's recovery partition? My old Samsung EVO SATA SSD came with software to do this, but I'm not sure if all providers have software for this.

Thanks!
