cloning or just copy?

So im getting a new hard drive. Iv an ssd for windows files and hard drive for other less important games and steam stuff

I want to know if I just copy from my old hard drive onto the new, will those programs be okay or will the register be messed up or somthing?

Or is cloning the way to go?

clone will be an exact copy of the original drive,copying i dont know if it will copy everything as some files might be locked or hidden

My plan is just to copy indivdual folders and copy with my new hard drive like steam and games etc

Would I mess up the register/computer doing such things?
