As part of my boring series, I was wondering if anyone had anywhere you can view flight paths of planes?

Was flying along a couple hours ago, and just underneath our ryanair plane in the middle of the ocean, another red plane went straight underneath us. Maybe I'm being dramatic, but holy moly it looked pretty darn close to us!

Was gone in the blink of an eye, to the left of the direction of our planes travel. Only a couple of us saw it with the speed of both planes.

I'm curious to see which plane it was. :)

(inb4 cool story).

Same as the scale can be a bit funky when your coming into land - planes that look close in mid-air are often 6-7x the distance away you instinctively think they are.

Now, I'm no aeronautical engineer, but I have to raise an eyebrow at arrival signs you see at airports.

Have you tried Flightradar24?

Speaking of close calls, today at Barcelona Airport.

That site runs like **** for me! I was flying into Malta if anyone else wants a gander. :p

You're probably right, was astounding how it appeared one second underneath our plane (or so it appeared) and was gone so quickly. Genuinely looked like it was directly underneath us, albeit at a different height.

I like it best when they close the plane, it means my perm doesn't get ruffled by all that wind.

Cool starry bra.

I am, that's how they land, the pointy end has to go down first.

OK, how about this from RAF Waddington on Saturday?

Yep, if you stand that the end of a runway planes might come low, you can see the piano keys in shot at the end of the vid. Thats why there are traffic lights at waddo runway and the police advised it wasnt a good place to stand.

Still cool mind, but a lot of people are slating the pilot for being low

I've had a jet pass pretty damn close at the Eastbourne airshow when standing up on beachy head, but that video is something else.

Up to a point, wouldn't want to actually touch down front wheel first though, that'd be a rough landing :p

Had the same thing happen on a Ryan air flight coming back from Italy, only the other plane passed over us. Seemed very close.

No they don't :P
They pitch slightly up around 2.5 degrees as the angle of attack profile of most aircraft will have it reduce altitude at certain configurations/speeds.

But that's besides the point, the sign is obviously exaggerated for clarity!

I love how they're saying"the quick thinking pilot" "good thinking pilot" etc

Really?

just how smart or quick thinking do you have to e to go "you know what i WONT land on top of the other plane."

Heh, yeah like the pilot didn't scream at the top of his lungs...'PULL UP!!
