Close up C&C please - NO JUDGES

Going to be really blunt here, if i were still scoring.

Technical - 3

DOF is really important in this theme, your photo everything is in focus. There is no harm just to make one of the hand in focus and the rest of the watch isn't. The light looks like its either a really harsh table lamp or the direct flash (which is what I think it is).

Theme - 4

this is subjective i suppose and I realise you are limited by your equipment. In that case I would take a close up of a LARGE object rather than a small one.

Impact - 1

Just not punchy or stand out, forgettable. The lighting really doesn't d it an favours.

Can you explain this please? I don't quite understand what you mean. How would I create depth?

Use F/2.8 in your lens, do it in manual focus and move it til a certain part of the watch you like is in focus. Use DOF preview to see.

I just think the watch face needs to be more central, and the only part in focus imo. The background should be a bit more of a blurr to bring in the face (like the picture pictured above by Greg. This would give a big impact imo as its a nice looking face and is nice and close.

OK thanks, I'll work on that. I got criticised for the shallow depth of field in my previous shot at f7.1 so used f11 this time to increase the DOF. Oh well, can't please everyone :p

I'll have another go and see what I can come up with.

Noooo, Less is better in this case. try F/2.8, up to 5.6 and see which one is best.

Any tips on how to improve the first one? Bear in mind that I'm limited by my lenses and can't get any closer unless I crop.
Take a longer exposure so the second hand movement is visible :)

Maybe set the cam to TV and have a 4 second exposure, this way the second hand will have moved.

Cliched but maybe add more impact.

Josh

EDIT- Hahaha, didnt read all the thread and scrolled up and saw SDK^ do as i described haha!

I like it Scuzi. I would personally crop in (pref by a reshoot) and just have the clock face (since that is your point of intrest) The body of the watch lets down the overall impact.

I would then tinker some more in your raw editor or photoshop to try and make it pop some more.
