I currently have a custom build, it does everything I need it to but the fans have been come increasingly difficult to live with. I was thinking of putting my build in a be quiet 601 and exchanging my spluttering cooler for a Kraken z63. I need it as close to silent as possible as I'm an autistic adult and the noises cause stress. Any advice or suggestions are welcome.

The cheapest way to reduce noise is change the fans.

What case do you have at the moment though? As perhaps your case is based more on airflow than it is noise reduction.

It's a coolermaster masterbox TD500
The Cooler is a coolermaster masterliquid lite 240, both are exceptionally noisy.

Well the first thing you could do if noise is impacting you severely is adjust the fan curves in your bios. Is that soemthing you're comfortable doing? I ask as not everyone is.

And if your budget allows then a case focused on noise reduction would be good, but if you're working to a tight budget swapping the fans out would work wonders.

I've altered the bios already, I also have the Asus crate which I can change settings in but it hasn't helped. I suppose I could change fans if it's still too much look into a new case. Thanks.

Good fans could cost you around 20 quid, if you're buying 4 it'll be 80ish so you could get a case for that money.

Fractal are a brand I'd consider as their quiet cases are fairly quiet.

If it were me and I was happy with the case I'd change the fans. I'd only change the case if it could futurer proof me in some way, i.e allow me to fit a bigger cooler, gpu etc.

Sorry to hear about it causing you stress.

there is an Entirely passive cpu cooler by Noctua called the NH-P1 and there’s a B grade version in the Overclockers store for £75.

that plus some silent fans would be a great start to a nearly silent PC.

what are the specs of your Pc?

edit: also, once you get rid of the air noise, you pick up other noises coming out like coil whine.

if you want to want to get rid of all noises, get a silent pc chassis with extra padding

What do you do with your PC? The most effective solution I found for this was to build a desktop PC only for uhh, desktop use, which could be much lower power and mainly passive or semi-passive. Gaming or production PCs are a lot harder to make silent, but with good fan/cooler choices you can make them nearly silent when the PC is idle. Under heavy load is more complicated (and expensive), depending on what hardware you have.

With the fans, the motherboard might not be able to control them. 3 pin fans (especially molex-powered) often need a controller hub, or a resistor wire. 4 pin PWM fans you can control with the motherboard.

I do use it for gaming/programming/music creation.

You can just go into the bios and lower the fan speeds if you want it to run quieter the downside is that it will be a bit warmer but so long as it's not hitting 90C + and throttling then you won't really lose any noticeable performance.

This was suggested earlier, I have but it's still too loud for me.
