Cloud seeding Citroen Relay

I forgot to mention, this thing looks ripe for a 350/350 combo. That's a 350 cubic inch Chevy V8 and TH350 auto box for all you foreigners out there :p

When I was a kid we hired a massive RV for a California road trip. The first thing my dad said was I bet this thing is gutless and mashed the throttle into the floor. No, he was wrong. The damn thing lifted up at the front, lit the back end up and threw the entire contents of the van down the back, leaving dad screaming his head off laughing :D

Sounds like you have a number of issues.

The chug chugging on start up is likely to be one or more glow plugs not working.
This allows the unburnt diesel to come out of the exhaust in wafts of white smoke.
Once the piston has been going up and down a bit compressing the fuel, it heats up enough to start working on its own without the use of the glow plug, which is why the smoke then clears and she starts to run smoother.

Test the glow plugs individually by removing the wire or "bus bar" that runs across the top of them and measure the resistance between the top pin and the big nut underneath. Readings should be under 6 ohms ish.. Any that are "open circuit" or in the Megaohm.. are FUBAR.

Change the duff coolant temp sensor and also check for coolant leaks by topping it up and pressurising the system to around the pressure on the coolant cap (1.5 bar max)

Blue smoke, Meh, it's probably done a trip to the moon and back, a bit of blue smoke is not too much of a worry for now.

Clouds of thick continuous white smoke indicate that the head gasket has failed on the cylinder block side of the system.

If fails on oil port side there will be clear evidence of engine oil and antifreeze /coolant emulsified!

If neither of these faults are found then the diagnosis of this issue then goes toward Thermostat, temp sensor water pump.

These have all been mentioned already but my opinion is have a look at your coolant cap or even by a new one as they aren't expensive

Get back to me lol.
