Cloverfield

I'm going to see it tonight but I think I might just rant at the whole way its filmed. I can see this being the major put off!

It seriously isn't a bad thing. If it was filmed normally it'd just be another monster in new york movie (albeit an awesome one), but the filming style actually proper draws you into it.

Exactly! Rather than being a monster type film it is more about being engrossed in all the chaos that it actually brings. The way it is shot really works - although some lamers do complain on 'motion sickness'

Its fine in thoery but some movie scenes that have used this has made it uncomfortable to watch.. I could watch the trailor easily enough though so I have faith.

yeah. TBH you don't notice it when the awesomeness starts. I felt a bit weird to begin with when they're in the apartment, but after that its fine

Ok just got back from seeing it tonight.

My friend and I agree it's the best film we've seen in 2007-8 (and we've seen all the big films of the year!).

[SPOILERS]
You actually felt for the characters, you never know for sure where the monster came from other than it just is there. The monster looks realistic as do its siblings. The special effects were fantastic too, MUCH MUCH better than I am Legend for example and the acting was fantastic.

I instantly recognised Jessica Lucas as she's in CSI Vega (and she's so hot <3) so that was a welcome surprise.

Overall the action was thick and there was plenty of it but at no point was it overdone like in some films. What happened is what you'd imagine would happen when a monster goes rampage in the city. None of this climbing the Empire State Building guff or anything, just raw devastation and fear.

I also loved the sounds, it's one of those films where sound plays a key part in giving you a sense of realism. The subway scene is a prime example. You'd expect them to cut to the streets to show the American Army being badasses and kicking monster ass but at no point does this happen, we only hear the thundering crashes of destruction and the heavy footsteps of a beast.

Another thing I liked is that there was no "America is great we win at everything" - I liked the ending too, it was much nicer to see a bit of sanity for a change, the army exhausting standard attack options before evacuating the city as best possible and dropping the nuke.

[/SPOILERS]

The film is already out on TS but I urge people to watch it at the cinema, it's the one time that paying £7.35 actually is worth it. Once again, It's one of those films you must see on the cinema!

I am heading out in 15 minutes to watch this at the 11:10 showing and I am quite looking forward to it! The trailer that I watched when I went to see AVP2 was good and the filming style seems interesting.

My friend, who is a bit of a film buff, informed me that it is getting 5* reviews, too.

Pansies tbh

tbh I think because its crap.

For those who haven't seen it :
The whole of the film is filmed as though somebody has got a camcorder in their hand (like Blair Witch).
That means when he falls over the camera goes over, when he's running up the stairs the camera is wobbling all about.
He even keeps the camera going when ..............

The film hasn't even got a beginning or an end and doesn't explain anything.
However some of the CGI is good.

i watched this today and thought it was really well done. The pacing was great and he sense of panic and pure  was excellent.

My only little problem was the hand cam.. whilst it did add to the film the amount of shaking and wobbling made my head hurt a bit!

just been to see this and well.....i dont know what to think lol

awesome visuals, went in not really expecting to see much of anythin bar the people running and screamin, but was pleasently suprised :)

shakey camera did get a bit annoying in some places and good god how much battery life did that camera have lol

was nice to see it all from the perspective of people trapped in the city trying to escape instead of seeing the US army just laying into the beast slowely for an hour or 2, working their way up to nuke's as a last resort as per usual with this type of film.

i personally dont this film needed the standard structure of beginning, middle and end, you are thrown into what has happened one fateful night and i think the story is told brilliantly :)

That's the truth!

I saw it today and liked it, and after reading about it will want to rewatch it on dvd, but can't help but feel that a bit too much was held back. Certainly worth watching though.

Possibly the biggest pile of garbage I've ever watched, definately a love it or hate it film. Great acting, lovely effects but plot holes all over the place. I can't properly put across how much of a waste of time and money it felt for me. The shaky camera work lasted far too long and I just didn't feel drawn into the story at any points, no matter how good an actor is they can't make you believe anything with such a generic monster movie plot.

Seriously this was the plot of a 1980s Spectrum video game. I'm pretty sure it was called "Rampage".

It had a more rounded plot though.

Just got in from watching this. In all honesty, this has gone straight to number 1 in my list of favourite films. I just felt everything about it was fantastic, I even liked the idea of the shaky camera :p. The monster was ace (although abit Gears of War) and the ending was perfect, finishing at the start if you will :D.

{Ending Spoiler}
With the monster dropping into the ocean. Its there, just behind the boat!

{/Spoiler}
