Cloverfield

Na there's nothing to suggest that they're hosts to other creatures really, I'd like to give the writers more creative credit than that.

So we've got a bloke who the film is centred on, who just so happens to be going to work for the company that deals with this magic food that makes fish the size of whales.
His mate just so happens to have a camcorder which he keeps running even when a monster is going to eat him.
The monster has come from at least 5 miles under the sea and can amazingly breath and move on land.

I'd rather believe Aliens growing in my stomach.

*spoilers*

Where did you get that it came from under the sea?

The cam guy came up with that assumption, did no way anyway one state that it came from under the sea, for all we know it could have been an alien that landed.

The guy with the cam, also stated he wasn't dropping the cam because he knew it could be important and that he wasn't missing filming something so awesome.

Imo, brilliant film, had me glued the whole way through.

Found it really entertaining film, immersive. I agree that perhaps the monster was disappointing to see. Would rather not see it as much as you do.

Can't say the camera work bothered me too much - ocassionally wished it was filming what I wanted it to (or what a 'normal' film would show). Didn't feel anything for the characters, particularly, apart from Hud.

The ending clearly perplexed half of the cinema though - a lot of looks across at one another and a few commented on how short it was, or 'was that it'. A few geeks, such as myself, took the hint that the lights didn't come on for the credits as normal (or because they'd read online), to see the end of the credits.

It's not an amazing film, and I suppose it would be nice to understand more having watched this account of events - which was actually very good. It really dropped you in on a terrorist attack/warzone/monster attack. It'll also make for a very interesting DVD release, complete with 'extras'.

Can a mod put *Spoilers* in the title so we can just talk about the film like we would any other.

Its called a co-incidence, you find them in a lot of films.

His mate just so happens to have a camcorder which he keeps running even when a monster is going to eat him.

Hes documenting the events, any smart guy would keep the camera running as that footage would be worth a lot.

The monster has come from at least 5 miles under the sea and can amazingly breath and move on land.

You could pick holes in any monster/disaster movie. The film is supposed to provoke a sense of realism through the actions of the lead characters, not the accuracy of the monsters biological structure.

Would you like to reply to that one again?

Lets put it in simple terms :
You're dropped in a hungry lions cage with a camcorder do you -
A) Drop the camcorder and try and leg it out of there?
B) Film your death because it may end up on You Tube?

The two are incomparable.

not really the same...

we can see lions every day, and we know their behavior, an alien/monster attack is not seen most days if im honest.

i havent see it yet but i can imagine theyre pretty much buggered anyway, may aswel make best of a bad situation :o

In the film Hud had a larger chance of escape. Thats a ridiculous comparison, were talking about a lion, common within the world, everyone knows what they're capable of. On the other hand you have Cloverfield, nobody has ever seen a creature the likes of this before and therefore no one knows what it is capable of. Besides, the video didn't end up on Youtube ;)

My fave part was where they end up in the street with the US army rolling up behind them - they decide to run for it in to the subway, and just as Hud is about to make it in he trips, the camera goes up and the monster comes in to view, screaming. Was quality! Such a great/scary noise!

Saw this today and i really enjoyed it - loved it in fact.

Its certainly an interesting film that leaves the story wide open and unclear but to me thats the genius of it. The viral marketing around this film is amazing to say the least. Go looking around the web and you can actually discover bits of the background to the creature etc and other parts of the story. The site that was linked before telling you some of the info is good but pales in comparison to this site.

DO NOT CLICK LINK IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE FILM - SPOILERS AHOY

The minor details spread throughout the film linking with the stuff outside of the film is just great.

lol :D

Who's to say he wasn't in a state of shock with the monster being that close to him?

Had the film been made by you with the level of "realism" you wanted, the camcorder would been left at the party and left running for 2 hours. What a film that would be!

Oh no wait, the monster would have reached land, struggled to breathe and keeled over.. lol
