I agree with a fair bit of this, and although I thought it was awesome after coming out of the cinema, I am now thinking it could have been better in lots of ways -as you mention, especially the tension!

The monster did seem to be different sizes, from the first time you catch a glimpse, to when you see it onboard the chopper, to in the park. Like it was shrinking.

Just got in from seeing it, and im speechless.....

I know they kept the storyline quiet in the adverts on TV etc, but what they failed to let on is that their is no storyline to speak of. Me and a mate sat and looked at each other totally speechless when it ended as if we were both thinking "is this really the end credits or are they just being idiotic", and when we realised it was the ending we just sat watching the end credits in absoute amazement that this pile of garbage even got released.

Exactly how i felt really, i actually suggested to my girlfriend we make a 5 minute cliff note version of it with our own camcorder, same effect, and less time and money wasted!

Free here :p. Got 12 month cinema passes (g/f too) for xmas.

Has to be said, we both really enjoyed the film. Most people go into a cinema to watch a film and expect something from it, compare it to similar films, and even form an opinion of the film before they have even seen it. Personally, i judge every film on its own merits first, then disagree with everyone later :D.
 
Gotta be honest - I really enjoyed this :)

I thought it was very tense and the party at the beginning set it up nicely, even though we all knew what was coming. I kinda love the way it leaves a lot unanswered. Some people have said it's plot holes but we are seeing it from their perspective - we know as much as they do whilst it's happening, they are hardly going to log on to sky news and check for updates in the middle of it.

I thought the end bit was very good - I have a soft spot for films with bleak endings and this didn't disappoint.

I can't help thinking some people missed the point, and the kind of film they were watching.

The only weak points in my opinion are the smaller parasite creatures, I didn't like them and thought they were a bit starship troopers for my taste - and the big baddie himself - I thought he was a bit too generic in design, bit like the offspring of godzilla and a seal. Guess I just fancied something more outlandish in monster design.

I love this :D The alternative Cloverfield ending :p

AERIAL SHOT shows that the monster is, indeed, immobile and dead. Triumphant PATRIOTIC MUSIC SWELLS as the 2 helicopter flies off into the morning sunrise.

There then follows a 2-minute epilogue featuring US Army Generals, Scientists in Lab Coats, and the American President (played by Bruce Willis), detailing the "Cloverfield Incident".

This seems to be the ending the detractors are clamoring for. Not my best work, but you get the picture.

I went to see this last night, and while the hand-held camera was a bit tedious at times, I thought the atmosphere of the film was well set, I can see why so many people don't like it though, the ending for me was the best bit. I loved how silent it was in the cinema, I loved how the ending was so abrupt and how it wasn't explained.
 
Saw it other day. Thought it was OK until the completely inconclusive ending, nothing got tied up at all.

Guess there will be another one.
 
HIDDEN INFO FOR PEOPLE THAT HAVE SEEN THE FILM:

I got told this today by one of Benjo's friends at college. I apologise if it's been posted already.

At the end, when it cuts to Beth and Rob (?) saying that they had a good day, if you look in the background, something crashes into the ocean. And apparently it was a Japanese satellite made by the company that Rob was going to work for. There was a chemical in it or something that made that beast angry and that's what made it decide to come up out of the ocean. Then obviously there's DEADDAEDTONSTI etc.

Just in case some of you didn't know. :)
