Clustered File Shares & Volume Shadow Copy

Hi All

I have a 2 node cluster with a bunch of disks and DFS-R/File Shares as a resource.

I need to enable Shadow Copies for the various file shares. On the single machine file server in another site I simply created a new LUN on the SAN, called it "ShadowCopies", mounted it as a folder and pointed all the Shadow Copies to it.

On the cluster however if I try to set-up Shadow Copies via Failover Cluster Manager I do not get the option to point the Shadow Copies to a different volume (yes I have added the LUN to the resource, the physical option just isn't there). If I do it through Disk Management it is there and I can set it.

My question is this: Do I NEED to set-up Shadow Copies through Failover Cluster Manager in order to have the Shadow Copies fail over with the resource or can I do it via Disk Management so that I can point Shadow Copies to a different volume?

Thanks :)

To add to this, I have just discovered that the Shadow Copies I set-up on the stand alone server were not working, or at least not displaying in Previous Versions. I assumed that since Shadow Copies are enabled at the volume level that I had to enable Shadow Copies on each volume that is mounted as a folder. This is incorrect it seems. I had to enable Shadow Copies on the volume that the other volumes were being mounted as folders on in order to get Previous Versions to work.

Interesting I thought.
