He tends to have different flags up from time to time, but as soon as any major sporting event arrives, it's always the union jack or cross of st george depending on the event.

Spot on. You'll find that the houses with Poundland flags plastered all over them are the sort to have horrid Christmas lights up (usually starting around November).

National pride is a great thing and for the golden jubille 4 years ago we erected a flag pole in our front garden. For the World Cup there is little hope as we will be out by the quarters/semi's.

I'm not sure which is more unlikely; your friend having a giant swastika in his window, or you getting banned for posting a picture of it.

Haha, that's classic. I suppose if you did win it you'd stay at home and shun the street parties, yes? Getting to the Semi's would be a damn good result for your team.
