would a flat coms battery stop a PSU from working ?
Tested PSU and tester says its good, when plugged in to tester PC fans and lighting work.
The pc hasn't been used in 2 years and was working apart from a virus problem when last used.
I was going to install an SSD and fresh install, but wont fire up in old config.
PSU was only about 12 months old when last used.
Any ideas or should I just look at a new build ?
Or go to the great expense of getting a new battery.

When you say it won't fire up, do you mean you get no output to the display? Have you tried resetting the CMOS? Have you tried different display cables? Ensured everything is connected properly and isn't loose including all expansion cards and all cables? Tried removing everything apart from the essentials before powering on? (motherboard/cpu/one stick of ram/use on-board gpu)

popped a new battery in and looks like a flaky 24 pin connection , will try it with an extender to see if its the cable or the socket.
hopefully removing the spring in the cable with the extender will sort it,
just got to order one now,
When I said it wouldn't fire up, the PSU wouldn't start its fan as it looks like it wasn't making proper contact with the MB

Glad you found the problem. Those 24pin connections do take a hiding when being stretched around :)
