Hi guys,

I'm getting some cd wallets printed using wewow and their repro guys are giving me an issue that I could use some advice on. Basically, the back cover is a black background with white text on top. I used photoshop to design the artwork and set the background colour to C: 100% M: 100% Y: 100% K: 100%, at which everything looks correct. However, they said that they can't do registration black "because this would cause drying problems when it goes to print", so they set the background to a very dark blue which then makes the text look blue because of the white text blending into the dark blue background. The thing is that they are being painfully unclear about this and their secretary is an idiot, so I am not sure of the situation. Obviously I do not want the text to look blue, so does anyone have any experience of this sort of thing, and can you give me some advice?

Sounds to me that there suggesting a shiner, which makes the black look shinier. Try c:50% k:100%.

Anyhow, have you asked about setting the black to c:0% m:0% y:0% k:100%?

As, 100% full colour process would be overkill. Thats a full layer of each colour including Key(Which is Black itself), so its bound to cause problems.

I know when we have large black coverage at our place we have to let them dry for ages otherwise they scratch a lot.

Thanks mate. The trouble with c:50% k:100% is that on the pdf proof it makes the white text over it look like it has blue outline (caused by the blending of the white text and cyan/black background). Would this show up on the final print do you think?

I couldn't really say as it depends on the process, litho/screen/digital.

Only have experiance with digital, normally it comes out fine.

Have you tried just 100% K and nothing else? Pretty sure that should be fine.

Edit:
Try asking for the production manager, they probably have more of a clue than reception.

Edit: C:0 M:11 Y:51 K:100 Is another black you might want to try.

Thanks for the tips, I'll try them. Unfortunately, the repro guys are non-customer facing, which is particularly helpful.
