.co domains

What is the general consensus on the importance of these domains? If i was to buy one, are they as highly thought of now as say .co.uk or .com domains?

The other option for the domain i want is a .net

.co is the country code top-level domain assigned to the Republic of Colombia.

My preference is always the com/net domains

and i would get a .net as that is a lot more fiting if you go into details of .co.. unless the website is for uk based company id take .co.uk

Nope, lots of people are buying them, thinking they are gold dust, but they aren't.

Most people in this country would probably think they've missed the .uk and add it on anyway.

Exactly this. Never underestimate the stupidity of users.

If you do decide on the .co domain, register the .co.uk and the .com and forward those on to it too.

That'll get people interested

I do agree with the above that people would think you've missed off the end and add it.

Total wate of time, most customers just think an idiot typed the address and left off the 'm' or '.co.uk'

General consensus amongst many small business owners in the UK is the above after many lengthy discussions about them on business forums!

As an uneducated member of the public, when looking for a website without Google I go to:
www.company.com if they're American, www.company.co.uk if they're British (www.company.com/uk if they're American but I want the UK information).
If they're a charity it's www.charity.org, and if they're a club it's www.club.net.

Really? Why do people assume .com is US? .us is US.

I always prefer .com even for a UK site.
