Me and mate are looking for a new gmae to play, we're ideally looking for something story based.

I'm looking for something actiony, my mate wants a horror game.

Any suggestions?

Its not story based but maybe have a look at Killing floor 2.

I quite enjoy this game and can waste a number of hours on it lol

Resident Evil 5 should satisfy both the action and horror elements...

Edit: or Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide. Personally I preferred Riptide.

Dead Space 3 might be worth a look.
Gears of War 4 should be co-op too.
Lost Planet 2
Resident Evil 5 & 6
Dead Rising 2 and 3.
Dark Souls 3
The Division is good fun in co-op although its not horror.

Well thats all I can think of off the top of my head.

A mate and I have been playing H1Z1: King of the Kill. An interesting game that can get very intense.

I have been getting into Ark recently, and would recommend it to to anyone, not a horror game to but it can be rather intense. You could host your own server for the 2 of you and set it up the way you like it

Yes, and it is fairly vomit inducing. If it ran smoothly it would be amazing, but it runs horribly.

How about The Forest? Survival Horror with a story to try and find your lost son after a plane crash on an Island full of Cannibals?

Currently playing it with a friend co-op and really enjoying it.
